38w appt
SO I had a sonogram today and saw the doctor. The baby is 6lbs 4oz, sounds perfect to me. . . the tech said it was too small but whatever I am showing no signs of labor and the OB said everything looks good.
He explained that he learned that some people just have small babies, especially if the parents were small babies but NOW everything is measured in weeks (my baby is considered 35w) and that is why some OB's freak out about size.
Here is the strange part, he told me that if I WANT to get the baby to a higher weight I can put myself on bedrest BUT I don't have to and even if I gave birth today everything would be perfect. . . . so why would I do that? Of course, DH has been pressuring me to stop working so he is going to use this to try to convince me
Anywho, boo to internals LOL
OH YEAH! I passed out right before my appointment. My perfect pregnancy is being ruined by all this heat and humidity!!!!

Re: 38w appt
the tech was all concerned that the baby was "lagging" and she wanted me to talk to the doctor ASAP b/c of the "drastic weight discrepancy"
Thank goodness DH and I are SO OVER all of this and didn't panic and the OB agreed that the numbers were fine.
Needless to say, I am not putting myself on bedrest LOL I was actually considering working past my due date now but DH lost his mind so I won't be doing that

I thought they grow .5 pound each week at this point?
That would make DC 7 lb 4 oz at due date

Re: 38w appt
At my 40w appt, my midwife estimated that my baby will be 6.5lbs, no more than 7lbs. Never showed the slightest bit of concern.
I'm glad you are not worked up over it. Healthy babies can be large or small!

Re: 38w appt
Ultrasound weights aren't always accurate. I've heard of them being off by well over a pound either way.
DD1 was 6lbs7oz and no one ever made a peep about her small stature (she was also only 18" long.. though I think they stretched her to get!)
Glad you're not getting worked up over it. I'm sure your baby is just fine :)

Re: 38w appt
I was on bedrest for most of my first pregnancy, and DS was 7lbs. @ birth (39 weeks). I don't think 6lbs 4oz sounds bad at all...and you still have some time. As long as you OB isn't concerned, I wouldn't worry.

Re: 38w appt
Yeah...... techs are supposed to take measurements and keep their mouths shut for a reason. They are NOT doctors.
Considering the baby gains about a half pound a week the final month, it sounds like your LO will be perfect!

Re: 38w appt
Tilde, that is a perfect baby weight! What a dumb "TECH" for opening a can of worms! They should really not say anything...I know MANY babies that were born around the same, some even at 37 and 38 weeks...it's perfectly normal and fine! Don't worry :) Oh, and I TOTALLY agree about not going on bedrest! Good for you!!!

Re: 38w appt
Why are these docs so obsessed with making us push out 9 pound babies????
At my 38 week sono the baby was measuring 6 lbs 9 oz. They said it was small- just like they had been telling me the whole pregnancy.
Well she was born 2 weeks later at 7 lbs even- and in perfect health! I swear,I don't get why they made me worry so much the whole time!
I bet you will have at least a 7 pound baby!

Re: 38w appt
I don't think that sounds too small...I think they are being picky When I was born, I was around that weight at full term and I was fine.
I can't believe you passed out! That stinks... I passd out twice in the beginning of my pregnancy from blood sugar issues...not fun!
Try to stay cool

Re: 38w appt
I had a sono at 40w3d and the tech told me that she weighed 6lbs 4oz. 3 days later she was born at 7lbs 15.8oz. Those sonos are so far off that I'm surprised that they still use them as a measurement number.

I think it is a great size. I went yesterday and the baby was 6lbs. 3oz. and the tech said it was a great size! All in perception I guess.

i agree with this! don't let the doc worry you guys. your LO will continue to gain weight. sometimes they are off with the sonogram weights. my friend was told she was having a big baby and he was barely 7 pounds. as long as you are feeling good and the baby LOOKS good, that is all that matters

Re: 38w appt
I'm not even having a sono again. They can't be that important or we would all have to get them. Isn't a 6 pound baby a good size at this point? You even still have two more weeks to go!
