Transfers in Punta Cana

DH and I will be staying at the Excellence Punta Cana in Sept. Does anyone have recommendations for a company to get transfers to and from the airport? I emailed the hotel and almost died when they recommended a helicopter @ $438 each way Chat Icon

They said we could also take a taxi, but I am wondering if there are any shuttle services that can get us there a bit cheaper.

We stayed there also and they had plenty of shuttle buses at the airport.
We booked through a travel agent so they took care of all that. But I would contact the hotel again and ask them about it. Just and FYI...It takes about an hr to get to the hotel from the airport on a very bumpy mostly dirt road.

THIS is why I am sort of worried about taking a taxi. I read online in a few places that the taxi drives aren't the safest out there. I don't mind a bumpy ride, just wanna get there in one piece.

I don't think there are any rules of the road out there.
Just an idea of what the drivers have to deal with. I took this from our bus:

Re: Transfers in Punta Cana

I booked through Travel Tom when we stayed at EPC, so I'm not sure what shuttle companies are available. But there were plenty of them at the airport. I would post on the Punta Cana forum on TripAdvisor - I'm sure someone can give you the info you're looking for. You're going to love EPC - have fun!

Seriously??? We just stayed at the Excellence Punta Cana in February, and I contacted the concierge about getting "car service" (which was some guy in a honda accord) to and from the airport. It cost around $75 each way, I think....Which was fine with us because we didn't want to sit on the bus for a long time.

Call the conciege. They just had me email them my flight info, and they set everything up for me.

Actually, here is the conceirge email address. Drop them a note and see what they say...

Th concierge is the one who emailed me back. They are willing to setup the taxi service for me, was just wondering if the shuttle service might be cheaper.
I did read some posts on tripadvisor, and it seems like the taxi might be the best way to go.

I would think that the shuttle is cheaper. We just didn't want to sit on the bus while it stopped at other hotels along the way, since Excellence is one of the farthest from the airport.

Re: Transfers in Punta Cana

Taxi. We always take one in Punta Cana. There is one very reputable company that has a desk at the airport (Trip Advisor forums have the name)

It costs the same as the shuttle and it's private and you get taken right to your hotel.

Nothing bugs me more than getting on one of those buses and going to 100 different hotels before you get to yours.

The helicpoter DOES sound tempting though...
