Used car ques - which is more important, the mileage or year?

DH and I are looking to get an SUV, but can't get a new one with our budget. We're looking at used/certified used cars.

There's an 07 with 10k miles, versus an 08 with 23k. Assuming all other things are equal, which is more important: the model year or the current mileage on the car?

Well, I'm not an expert- but I'd say mileage. However a 13k difference isn't much. But I could be wrong.

i would say mileage as well.

I would see why the 07 has so few miles with it.

Get the carfax on it to make sure it was not in an accident and sat around...

mileage is what i would look at personal in relationship to year.

Are they functionally the same? Does one model have different features? If they are the same, go with the lower miles.

Milage is more important, especially on an SUV, unless there is a reason a particular year model would be less desireable (recall, bad design, first generation of a part change, etc.)

we bought a 2nd used car and its a 2000 sonoata with 83K on it. Other cars we looked at that were newer by a few years seemed to have lots more mileage.

means more wear and tear on the car.

i would get the car fax report. its well worth the $$.

Initially, I would say milage, but not if it belonged to a teenager/less mature adult who may not have driven it nicely. Higher milage at all highway might be better.

Typically, mileage, but like everything else, it depends.

If a newer car has more safety features, then the additional features are worth the extra miles.

A typical car is expected to go about 12k miles a year, so the '08 is right on track. The '07 is very low.

Also, highway miles don't count the same as city miles.
