DH and I are actually going to contract tomorrow on a house in N. Patchogue. It will be a definite adjustment, we live in Queens now.

Congratulations and good luck! Did you grow up in Queens? I'm from the Babylon area.

I also grew up in Brooklyn and moved to Queens when I got married. We just moved into our new house in Bay Shore two days ago and it's QUITE an adjustment.

Re: Patchogue
We live in East Patchogue off of South Country Road in a *private* community. We love it, all the neighbors know each other, and we are right near the water (GSB)....Not too keen on the Village of Patchogue-it needs to be revitalized, the West end of the Village has been perked up a bit, I hope they do the East part of the Village.

They are trying...my neighbor and I went to a meeting late last year held by Maezzi and the plans "look" nice...it would be better if they were implemented though
I live in N. Patchogue. There are things I'm not crazy with about Patchogue but there are aspects that I DO love...it's convenient to all major roadways, the town is always doing something cool, like fireworks shows for the residents, festivals by the beach, Alive after 5, parades, etc. There is more community events in Patchogue than I ever saw growing up in Merrick. There are also many more public parks too. I keep discovering new ones all the time
Welcome to the Neighborhood everyone!! We'll have to have a Patchogue GTG

There is one up the block from one of my jobs (right off the lake). It's cute and clean - there are always kids there. I think it's named after some sort of priest/minister. There was an egghunt there a few weeks back.
Then there's Sandspit, Cedar Beach, and I think one further East in Patchogue by the water (they had the Irish Festival there over the summer). Hallock is near my house and there is one off Barton (on a Circle something) that is really cute. They're all over the place. Ralphs Ices (behind the library on Main) has some sort of live music Saturday nights in the summer. Alive after Five (every other Friday night in the summer on Main Street) is pretty cool too. The Holiday Parade was AWESOME but a bit long (two hours long).

I don't know where any of those places are...I guess I'll go hunt around for them, the library is easy though!
Thanks!

The small park by Swan Lake you can get to from Waverly and 3rd. It's got a ball court, swings, slides, etc.
The beach parks you can find if you tool around to the extreme south of town. Just ride down N. Ocean, etc. and cut through the side blocks and take to the end. I sort of had to "feel" my way around the south end to find them. The really nice one is a little further west - almost by Blue Point.
Here is a really good link that outlines park/recreation info:
http://www.patchoguevillage.org/Parks.htm
I'm sorry, it's Corey Beach (not Cedar) in Blue Point - http://www1.brookhaven.org/things_to_do/map_beaches.asp

We live in Patchogue Shores, and there is a 'new' committee dedicated to beautifying our neighborhood. They are starting w/ clearing an area near the club house for a dog run, then a new play ground, new picnic tables, a boardwalk around the bulkhead and the best, plans to put in another pool!!!! That is the best part!!!! I am sure you have been down there, sometime, right?

It's nice to hear things like this. I would love to have a GTG. For those that asked, our house is just north of Sunrise, right off 112. We really love the house, but the yard is horrendous! We will probably be closing sometime near the end of May.

Re: Patchogue
If I am not mistaken I believe that canaan lake is in the back Yard of the house. It is not far from Sunrise. It is off Old Ocean Ave. I may not be in there until maybe Aug. But I would love to have a GTG to help me learn the area. I have a co worker that lives in E Patchogue on Sipp Ave.

Our house is right near Canaan Lake. It is the neighborhood right near there. We will definitely have to do a GTG. We will be in the house by the end of June.

I live and also grew up in Medford. My dh grew up in Canaan Lake area of Patchogue. Instead of a Patchogue GTG, lets call it a Patchogue Medford GTG. Oh and to answer your question, I agree with what everyone wrote. I love the area, but there are parts of Patchogue and Medford that aren't great. But that is usually the case in all areas.
