Level II today (with a serious ?) & Add me to team.....

BLUE!!! Chat Icon

Most of your guesses were right, it's definitely a little boy!

Everything looked normal except a teeny tiny amount of extra fluid in one of his kidneys. Has anyone had this????

They said "normal" is anything under 4mm, and mine was between 4 and 5. They said they have to tell me thats it can be a "soft genetic marker" for downs, but that for someone with my age and no other risk factors, it is usually a non issue and not even enough to do an amnio for.

I still of course freaked out and cried my eyes out. I know that a 1 in 12,000 chance is minute and that up until a couple of years ago, they considered anything under 10mm normal. But no one wants to hear anything like this at all. Please let me know if you have any similar stories. Im anxiety prone and this totally put a damper on my joy today. Chat Icon

They said that my DD had extra fluid on the back of her neck, and it could mean the same thing. She is FINE!

I think there are too many tests these days and it only creates nervous mommies.

I know how you are feeling, try not to let it bother you though.

Same thing happened to my friend and she just had a healthy baby boy! I will say that she was really upset after her sono and decided to do the amnio just to get some peace of mind. The amnio came back normal and she was able to relax for the rest of her pregnancy.

Re: Level II today (with a serious ?) & Add me to team.....

I am going through a similar situation now.

On my baby the found a cyst on his brain and another marker on the heart. I was told that these 2 markers as well as the kidney fluid are not the best markers to really set off any alarms and are really of low concern but that they have to tell us about them.

I freaked as well and just had the amnio done last week. Our FISH results came back negative so it is a good indicator that there is nothing wrong. I just needed to know noone pushed me into the amnio.

Even my genetics counselor said that she hates even telling people about these markers because more times then not everything is just fine.

Chat Icon Congratulation on your baby boy!

Thanks, apparently its common in boys and most of the time; completley normal. I just can't seem to justify the amnio since the amount of fluid is so little and since the risk of miscarriage is higher than the risk of anything being wrong.

Congrats on your baby Chat Icon !!!!

I didn't have the exact same situation, but one of my babies had cysts on her brain at my level II...that can be a sign of Trisomy 18. Of course, I freaked out and cried for weeks...I didn't even buy or register for anything girly because I was so scared.
BUT, when we went back for our next sono, the cysts were gone! So, try to stay positive and know that, more times than not, these things end up being nothing.
