Vacationing with 1 year old

So my husband and I were thinking of going to Vegas in March but then we rethought it and decided to go to someplace in the Caribbean.
Ethan will be 1 by the time we go (he'll be 1 in February) so it will be any time after that.
Are we nuts for doing this?
Where do you think we should go?

Well if you are nuts, then we are even more nuts, we are taking DCh (who is due Aug.3rd) to Aruba in March when he/she will be 8 months old!!! LOL Good luck to us, but seriously, I heard under 1 was the best time to travel, they still nap and sleep well, don't mind being in a stroller, blah blah! LOL

LOL Aruba, St Martin and Turks and Caicos are my 3 choices. Where are you staying in Aruba?

Re: Vacationing with 1 year old

DO NOT take an infant to St. Martin. Its VERY mountainous and i did not find the people overly friendly. I heard Aruba is gorgeous but a little windy, maybe tough on the sand with all of your baby gear. T&C is GORGEOUS but I don't really know that much about it being kid-friendly.

I would def suggest Grand Cayman. Friendly and courteous people, the island itself is GORGEOUS and the water is calm and CLEAR.

GL and enjoy your trip!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I haven't taken the kids to any of the places you mentioned, but we did start traveling when DS #1 was 10 months. We leave for Florida tomorrow with a 3.5yr old and a 3.5 month old.

We stay at the Marriott Surf Club, we own a timeshare!!! They have a great lazy river, and yes, a pp said it is windy, but just a nice light wind, helps with the heat!

we also have a Time Share there and took DS when he was 8.5 mons old. It was perfect for him and us. Everything is easy to walk to and we stayed on the beach or played in the pool all day

We had traveled with dd on cruises and to disney starting when she was 6 months. We did a big trip to hawaii when she was 1. No issues whatsoever!

by 18m we went back to mexico and it was still great, but he was running all over the place.

Re: Vacationing with 1 year old

Personally I think the caribbean is perfect for a 1yo.

We took DS when he was 10m old to the caribbean and had a blast. We've gone to the beach/pool multiple times this summer at 14-15m and we are having fun.

It's a bit of a pain to pack but surprisingly it's really easy once you get there.

We took DS to Disney world when he was 11 months old. It was perfect and extremely child friendly. Last year we took DS to St. Pete Beach/Clearwater and stayed at the Tradewinds. We loved it. We also did a day trip to Sesame Place. This year we took DS and DD on a cruise to Bermuda.
