Swimming diaper and sunblock question?

We are taking DD to our timeshare in Florida the 4th of July week. She will be 4 1/2 months old. They have beautiful kiddie pools and a lazy river so we want to be able to take her in with us, Where can I find a swimming diaper that would fit her. She is 13lbs, and I cant seem to find any that size? Also what sunscreen do you reccomend me to buy. It is HOT in Florida so I want the best one!! Thank You!!!!Chat Icon

The smallest size swim diaper is size 3. I used them for DS at 10 weeks (it was huge) and 5 months (it was a little big). He's small for his age.

For sunblock, the most recommended one on this site is California Baby.

Re: Swimming diaper and sunblock question?

I use Size 3, but they fit her now...

As for Sunblock my Ped recommended Blue Lizard... we are at the pool everyday... and I cover her mostly unless we are in the pool... but she always has her sunhat on in the pool with SPF 50 in the fabric of the hat.

Don't forget the sun hats and make sure they have SPF in them... I got the Speedo one at Target.

Re: Swimming diaper and sunblock question?

Talk to your ped before using sunscreen. It is not recommended for babies under 6 months.
With that said... MY ped recommended Blue Lizard (you can find it at CVS) when we went way and DS was 3mo. Make sure to keep the baby in the shade though since babies can't regulate the heat at that age and you don't want her to overheat.
I used the smallest size I could find and they were still very big. Make sure to put it on her RIGHT before going into the water though because they are not meant to hold any liquid Chat Icon

If you have a Saf-t swim near you, they have the non-disposible diapers there. They start at XS which fit my tiny DS perfectly

Re: Swimming diaper and sunblock question?

My ped. said not to put sunscreen on a baby under 6 mo.

In regards to swim diapers, I have used both Huggies and Pampers and they both work well.

Re: Swimming diaper and sunblock question?

Wow I didnt know you could not put sunscreen on them? I thought I heard it was 4 months. My parents used to put it on me and my brother when I was an infant?? I guess they are more strict now. I cant see not putting a little on her. We have the spf Sunhats. And one piece bathingsuits. I wont be putting her in pants as my daughter is a big sweater. I dont want her little legs to burn. I will ask my pediatrician and see what she says. It hard to avoid the sun completley in Florida. We will keep her in the shade while by the pool except when we take her in. Thank you for all the information.Chat Icon

My ped was fine with sunscreen before 6 months - she said the dangers of the sun are much worse than the sunscreen could be.

Yes I just called and asked and they told me it is fine. They said to keep the baby out of the sun as much as possilble but it was ok to use in small amounts where clothing is not covering her. Like her tops of her feet and hands and arms and legs. She said the same thing, that sunburn would be much worse! I guess some drs. are ok with it and others are not. I will only use it when we are def going to be exposed for a longer period. Thanks ladies for all the info!!Chat Icon

Re: Swimming diaper and sunblock question?

I used clothing and hats from coolibar.com for DD until she was over 6 months. I also limited time in the sun and kept her in the shade almost all the time and kept her in AC during the hottest part of the day. Their bodies just can't regulate their temp that well.
