Key West

We're considering this for our next trip.
Would love some hotel recommendations on the beach.
Actually would love to hear all recommendations.
I'm getting overwhelmed trying to decide if we want to be on the beach or closer to town.

Re: Key West

We stayed in Key Largo and then went for the day to Key West. It was an entirely different vacation than it would have been in Key West but I would recommendethe hotel (really a B&B) in Key Largo if you want to see a really nice, somewhat quiet fishing town w/ great food. When we went to Key West, someone got us into the pool at a hotel that was really nice. It's a place that has regular hotel rooms and time share rooms. It's near everything. I will try to remember the name. I'd go back to either Key Largo or Key West in a heartbeat!!!!

Key West is so small - it doesn't matter where you stay.

I was there twice several years ago and stayed at the Casa Marina both times. It is a beautiful resort with a huge pool deck and a private beach complete with cutie guys that will drag a lounge chair on the sand for you. Chat Icon

They have a fancy restaurant, casual restaurant that has the best breakfast buffet and you can order lunch type stuff at the pool bar.

It wasn't a walk long to Duvall which is one of the main streets on the island.

Thank you both.

Christine---do you know if they offer shuttles if we didn't want to walk?

They didn't have shuttles but there were taxis available.

Great...thanks!

Here is a silly question. Can you swim in the warm at the beach? From all the pictures I see on line I don't see many people in the water.

Re: Key West

We rented a condo in the Truman Annex and it was great. You could walk to Duval St from there and it's also very close to the beach near the fort. There's also a pool in the complex. The best part was having a kitchen and a huge balcony to hang out on.

The beaches in Key West are sort of so-so, but if you feel like driving a little the beach at Bahia Honda State Park was great. I think it was about 45 minutes from Key West.

ditto to what Christine said. We stayed at the Casa Marina on her (and merf's) recommendation and it was great! Key West doesn't have beaches, but Casa Marina does - and water sports.

The walk is less than 10 minutes to Duval and it's actually kind of nice to walk home after dinner to digest. You also get to see a lot of art galleries that you might not see if you weren't walking that way.

I actually wasn't a big fan of Key west... the nightlife was fun but the beaches were nothing special and I thought there was a smell to it Chat Icon Chat Icon

I loved the other keys that we drove to a bunch! I think Duck Key was one of them! a lot nice IMO

oh and it is not that big we were able to walk the whole strip at nights!

I agree with what everyone else said. Just be careful, there are hotels that are pretty far from downtown (far as in not within walking distance of Duval St) I think you're better off being on the beach but within walking distance of Duval St. Have fun! I love Key West.

I'd recommend the Casa Marina or the Hyatt...both are great!

Thanks everyone.
We decided to go to Montauk for a few days instead and we had a very nice time.
But I'm going to notebook this for future reference.

I'm with you!! It's been a long time now since I went, but I wasn't impressed with it at all!! It's fun for like a day -- but I would rather stay on one of the other Keys.

ITA. I was really disappointed. The town skeeved me out and I didn't like the vibe in the bars.
