Delta?

Has anyone flown them lately?? There is like a $150 price difference (due to baggage fees on Delta) between them and Jet Blue... but we r flying with 2 kids so I'm a little nervous about no tvs and also aren't the seats are bigger on Jet blue... ust wondering how Delta is overall??

PS...flights are to Florida...so less than 3 hours

Re: Delta?

we use them a lot since they are one of the few airlines that have non-stop to my MILs.

To FL, you probably won't have a TV. You may, but I doubt it. Often we don't get them on our 4.5-5 hours flights.

delta also charges for checked bags. carseats are free only if you bring them to the gate with you.

seat size ranges too (depending on the plane/configuration) but we have definitely seen smaller (DH is 6'2, so he feels the difference)

Re: Delta?

I have not flown them lately - but we flew Delta to Orlando in Sept/Oct 2008 (when they started charging for 2nd bag - but we had bought our tickets in advance so we were exempt from that). They were HORRIBLE. They significantly overbooked our flights - we bought the tickets in Jan or Feb and they changed the flight time on us about 4-5 times and canceled our return flight. Long story short- they moved our seats - for no reason (they did not move my parents who were sitting across the aisle) telling us they switched types of planes (they hadn't) and moved us to three separate middle seats with over 6-8 rows between each seat (DD was 15 months so obviously she couldn't sit alone). After several phone calls, lots of begging and being told sorry the plane is significantly overbooked you should be thankful you get ANY seats - they put us in the second to last row of the plane telling us to get there more than 3 hours early if we want any chance of being moved (I get sick in the back of planes). We did that (it was a 7 am flight) and they laughed and said funny you should be thanking us for getting you on the flight.

The return flight was canceled about a month before we flew - and they moved us from a 530pm flight to a 7 am flight (they had another afternoon flight that was NOT full) and told us sorry this flight is overbooked and there are no seats available please get there at least 3 hours ahead if you want to get onto the flight. Needless to say we said no thank you - since we had plans to spend the last day at the parks and had some special things planned. They were nice enough to switch us to the 7 am flight the next morning for free - so we ended up staying an extra night at the hyatt at the airport and getting another night out of the trip. They DID however charge my parents a change fee (my father is a frequent flier with them so he wasn't happy) to put them on the other afternoon flight the same day that they were supposed to travel that was NOT full. They would not allow any preboarding as you are going to disney and there are a lot of children on the flight (there were maybe 5 going down).

We tried Jet Blue this time. They were GREAT!!! So easy. They DID change the flight times a few times but always notified us - they made notations on our seats not to move us as we have 2 girls under 3 flying and they allowed preboarding. They didn't have headphones out when we preboarded and their machine wasn't working so the headphones were free. They were pleasant to work with and they only charge for one bag rather than 2 which was nice.

I used to fly with delta a lot - but my past 2 experiences (had an issue with them the time before as well but it is MUCH easier to deal with seat changes etc when you aren't flying with young children) but I have also had several friends with negative experiences that I try not to fly with them any more.

Etd to add car seat was easier to install on JB as the seat I think was "slightly" bigger - the TV was a nice touch when you have a fussy child.

Re: Delta?

I found Delta's seats to be smaller than Jet Blue's, and I'm not happy about the checked baggage fee.
DH is going to have to carry a bag onto the plane with some of his stuff, just like I do Chat Icon so that we only check one suitcase instead of two.

We flew them in April to and from Ft. Lauderdale for our cruise. Before we left NY, we got voluntarily bumped from our return flight (actually timed in our favor) and got $200 travel voucher each. Not too bad. We used that towards our flight to San Juan next April, wound up paying only $144 each RT.

The one thing I don't like is that they keep changing the time on the itineraries. Our next two flights are with Delta as well, and all four segments have had their times adjusted.

Delta is still better than American.........
