SO frustrated! Need stylist recommendations
I got my hair cut last week and I am so unhappy - the hairdresser I went to basically was no help. I brought her a picture but said that I was unsure of how it would look, and I wanted her advice on layters and how short to make them. She told me, well you have to decide what you think will look good. Um, hello, YOU are the stylist, I am asking for your advice, what a cop out! Plus as she is cutting, I tell her to go shorter, and she barely does, and when I tell her I don't think it's layered enough in the back but I'm not sure because it's still wet, she says to me "Don't you know how your own hair will dry?"
I have curly hair and I like it short. It's fine, not thick, so the curls don't go crazy when it's very short. I need a GREAT FANTASTIC SUPER AMAZING stylist who can give me the short cut I've always wanted but have never been able to describe. I don't care how much it costs. Please, someone recommend their stylist to me!!

Re: SO frustrated! Need stylist recommendations
I just started going to Ava at Sivana in St. James. She came pretty highly recommended. So far so good, but I haven't let her do much yet. She's given tons of what I feel are great suggestions, but I haven't tried them out yet. I've been letting her trim my current style as I get a feel for her.
That wasn't much help was it??

Re: SO frustrated! Need stylist recommendations
I like two stylists at my salon. Cactus in PLainview.
One is Desiree ( I think she is uber talented)
The other is Jimmy who is a short hair specialist.
All of the stylists are great there but I've seen personal results with both. I'm always happy with the way Desiree cuts.

I have been going to Jill for years when I could no longer afford my other stylist. She is fantastic.
And, if money is no problem, the stylist before her that I went to was amazing. He is the owner at Sivana (which was mentioned above) - his name is Steven. HE IS A GOD AT HAIR.
But I love Jill too b/c her cuts are AMAZING and she is sweet and she LISTENS to what you want and is so easy to work with -- and so great at suggesting which sounds like what you need.

I just googled them and got two addresses one on Mark Tree Rd and the other on Middle Country Rd.

Re: SO frustrated! Need stylist recommendations
I think you need to go to someone who specializes in curly hair. Someone who is just good at giving short haircuts will not do! I know your frustration first hand-very few people know how to cut and style curly hair. That type of hair behaves completely differently from straight hair and one really needs to know how to treat it!
If you don't mind traveling to Manhattan, I met a woman in my hail salon once who had the most amazing haircut and she had curly hair. I actually asked her where she goes and she told me that she sees a stylist named Carlos in Mario Diab salon in Soho. He charges a lot, a can't even remember how much now but hundreds of dollars for sure. Let me tell you though, that woman looked amazing-her hair was flawless and you could tell that whoever did it really knew what he was doing!

The one cut I got and loved was a Ouidad in NYC, but it's such a trek for me! I wish there was someone on LI that knew how to cut curly hair.
