Re: Alaskan Cruise Q
We did RCCL out of Vancouver. We also went with a lot of family..
I think it could be romantic....but a LOT of old people on it too
It is a wonderful experience though

Re: Alaskan Cruise Q
We did it for our honeymoon.
It is romantic because it is more slower paced and you are in tune with nature.
We went on a sled dog excursion and it was great. One of my favorite excursions out of the 6 cruises we've been on.

Re: Alaskan Cruise Q
Romance is what you make of it.
We did the RC out of Vancouver a couple of years ago. Although we travelled with other people, we had 'our time' - a couples massage, champagne in our statetoom, dinner for two one night, dancing under the sunlight (no moon at 2am !). Some excursions were just the two of us, others we did with the rest of our travel companions.
We enjoyed the trip, and would like to do it again.

Re: Alaskan Cruise Q
ITA with the "romance is what you make of it" sentiment. Just aim to have a good time doing things that you and FH like to do... the romance will be there! DH and I went on an Alaskan cruise for our honeymoon and had a great time.
For excursions, the ones that stuck out to me that we really enjoyed were a bike tour, a hike/rafting excursion in Skagway, and taking a helicopter up to the top of the glacier in Juneau. We were supposed to do the sled dog thing & were really looking forward to it, but the weather was too bad to get up to the dog camp so it was cancelled.

Re: Alaskan Cruise Q
We loved it, it was just DH and I. We love nature and thought it was amazing to wake up to such glory everyday. Defintely get a balcony room.

Re: Alaskan Cruise Q
Our honeymoon was an Alaskan cruise and we think it was perfect. We were on a Norwegian boat so we got to sit by ourselves at dinner every night whenever we were ready to go. Most nights we went to one of the other restaurants on board (italian, japanese, etc) which are slightly more money so most of the families or at least the younger people weren't there since they had other things they wanted to spend their money on.
The night we were in the italian restaurant it was so beautiful, there were orkas swimming next to the ship and they kept coming out of the water right next to the window we were sitting at.
We splurged and got a room with a balcony so we sat out there a lot when we were cruising between cities.
We were pretty anti-social on that trip but since it was a mix of ages on board it didn't feel weird to us at all.

Re: Alaskan Cruise Q
I don't think Alaska is your typical romantic vacation destination but romance is what you make of it!
Alaska is on the top of my list for travel. I've heard good things about Holland. Supposedly their ships are medium sized so you can get closer to the glaciers. That is what my friends and travel agent told me.

Re: Alaskan Cruise Q
When we went, we were with DH's (then BF's) entire family. But it definitely could be romantic. It's cold in Alaska, on the water, at night. Think bodyheat!
