Tri-County has an entire floor of jewelers. I got some great pieces there (including my wedding band!)

I loved Fortunoff We got my engagment ring there and when they closed we walked around one last time to say 'goodbye'
Similar to a tri-county, I recently had good luck at the Commack Jewelry Exchange, but it's not the same.

For fine china and gifts like that, I have found Bed Bath and Beyond has a lot of nice stuff.
For jewelry, we order a lot online from Blue Nile and Red Envelope.
