Rylan is the worst eater. He will not eat ANY friut or vegetable.

He will eat...

waffles/pancakes
any bread
pb&J
polly o
yogurt

He will sometimes eat

mac & cheese
gerber raviolis

Of course if he loves all snacks. When he was younger he ate so much more. It's so frustrating...sometimes he'll go the whole day/night just eating waffles for breakfast. Hs ped said to just make sure he takes his vitamin and pb&j for the protien.

Re: Would you be concerned if this was all your toddler ate?

I'm not the best one to give advise since my son won't even try table food.

What about hiding veggies in the mac and cheese or pancakes? BLueberry pancakes? Chat Icon

There's fruit in yogurt

I'm sure he'll be fine. My mom said I was the worst eater ever. I hardly ate anything and would give her a look at dinner that I was going to puke. Never ate.

Now, I'm totally healthy. Everyone goes through a phase. I'm a health nut and love veggies and fruits. I never ate it till probably after college Chat Icon

Re: Would you be concerned if this was all your toddler ate?

No, it's frustrating, but I wouldn't be concerned.

This is really all Jack eats:

Oatmeal w/ raisins for breakfast
Pancakes (for any meal)
Chicken nuggets w/ sweet potato fries
Pasta with peas and corn (only eats the corn 90% of the time - sometimes a few pieces of pasta)

He will eat grapes. He loves watermelon. He will eat apples (occassionally) and loves peaches. That's it.

On a rare occassion - I can get him to eat some steak.

On an even rarer occassion I can get him to eat Ziti (that is made ONLY by my aunt. She makes it for me and I freeze it)

That's pretty much our menu. It sux. But it is what it is . My ped said not to worry, he is thriving and gaining weight. He will eat when he's hungry!

But as long as he is gaining weight, Im sure he is fine

I would be concerned but I don;t think there is a real reason to be... I would give him a multi vitamin and try to start sneaking fruits and veg into his meals-if you home make waffles/pancakes you can put fruit in them...or use baby food fruit or veggies

Re: Would you be concerned if this was all your toddler ate?

keep offering him stuff!

have you tried to puree veggies/fruits and put them into sauces/pancakes. this way you know he's eatting it and then put actual veggies/fruit on the plate so he knows it's supposed to be tried too.

When you say he loves his snacks, do you mean crackers/cookies? Cause offer non-processed stuff during snack time so he learns that's the snack to eat.

Good luck!

Re: Would you be concerned if this was all your toddler ate?

My toddler will have days that she eats only bread and plain pasta or cheerios. Its very frustrating.

However there are days where we will surprise me and eat broccoli or some chicken.

At her 2 year well visit they said just always offer her a variety and keep giving her her vitamins and she will be fine.

good luck!

I'm going to give raisins another try...he USED to love them. I don't try to sneak anything in his food because if he didn't like it he would never touch it again. I can't chance losing one of the few things he'll eat.

It's annoying because he used to love pasta...especially with sauce. He would eat 3 plate fulls. He used to love rice and beans...fried bananas...so much more.

Re: Would you be concerned if this was all your toddler ate?

I think we are losing a food per day over here!! DS still eats ok, but the selection is getting more and more limited. I remember my ped telling me they go through phases where they just don't want to eat so I'm trying not to worry about it too much. I just keep offering him different food even if I know he won't touch it. Some days he surprises me!

I don't know if you've seen them, but they sell vegetable cookies at BJ and I know that Jerry Seinfeld's wife made a cookbook with was to hid veggies in stuff kids will eat. DH and I tried the Chocolate cookies (they have apples, zucchini, broccoli...) and they were awesome!

We're going through the same thing here. DS is 3 yo. On the plus side, he is gaining weight and growing nicely. Hopefully, it's just a phase.

My DS is very picky as well.

For some reason he loves guacamole. All I do is mash the avocado with the some lemon juice and kosher salt. Maybe you can entice him with the tortilla chips?

Re: Would you be concerned if this was all your toddler ate?

DS is the same way. There have been weeks where he will eat nothing all day unless I offer to get him pizza or chicken nuggets.

He will refuse everything else.

My ped said not to stress out about it. That no child will ever starve himself if there is food available to them and as long as he is active and happy, to just let him be.

I found that if I DH and I just act naturally when we are eating and we don't make a huge deal of "offering" it to him, and getting him to taste it, he will at some point come up to us and ask us to try it out of curioisty.

If we try to make him try it, then it is test of wills and he will say no just to say no, so DH and I just casually mention that we will be eating, sit down and start eating.

Re: Would you be concerned if this was all your toddler ate?

My DD has her days. She eats a variety of things but there are days she eats next to nothing. My ped said to just keep trying to introduce new things daily.

DH's nephew only ate chocolate muffins and bread for clse to two years and his mom is a nurse. He is now a perfectly healthy 13 year old.

Stop offering them! I went through that with DD early on and couldn't understand why she wasn't eatting until I realized...DUH, "would you eat a vegetable if you knew cookies were there." I felt so dumb cause nutrition is such a part of my life. After I stopped offering them (I only give them to her at the gym or in car/store to tie her over) she eats 100% better. At 2 she loves to eat everything we do, including fruits, veggies. I don't make her anything special, than what we are eatting for dinner. She'll even eat things like veggie sushi and stuffed artichokesChat Icon

My DC's aren't big vegetable eaters
( though they like fruit)...

My friends DS won't have either....She gives him V-8 Splash and he loves it...Not exactly the same, but its something !

My DS drinks Fruitables ( the fruit/veggie juice box)

I agree. I would limit the snacks so that by meal time he will (hopefully) be hungry.

Chat Icon These are pretty much Jacen's staples.

For lunches, he eats either a ham/cheese sandwich or a pb&j. He also eats pizza. He loves blueberries and strawberries. Will eat grapes sometimes and apples sometimes. Veggies... forget it. Chat Icon

He doesn't like pasta with red sauce. He will eat pasta with butter sometimes. He will eat a veggie burger sometimes. He will eat ham or keilbasa sometimes too.

Basically it depends on the day. Many days, he eats the same things. He goes through stages. He will not try new foods.

It's very frustrating. But no i would not worry. Just keep trying new things or other things and don't sweat it if he doesn't eat it. Chat Icon

Re: Would you be concerned if this was all your toddler ate?

Ugh, I hear ya. I'm constantly looking for new ways to sneak in meat, veggies, etc.

Mine drinks a lot of juice so I make sure to buy V8 splash or the fruit & veggie juices. He also will drink a lot of milk so that is good too.

I recently cut up chicken into tiny little peices and tried to hide them in his mac & cheese. He ate that. Sometimes I also mix pureed gerber carrots into his mac & cheese.

Some breads are high in protein so maybe you could look for those?

What is most frustrating is that I'll make him a plate of dinner and doesn't touch it, says "i dont like it, too yucky" meanwhile he hasnt even taken 1 bite! GRRRR

It is frustrating but I wouldn't worry, they are all the same!
