How many people found a house they loved, lost it-- then found something better?
I am still hoping, praying-- trying to think positively that we will get this house. It's not over til it's over I keep telling myself....
But, I need to prepare myself.
I need to hear some success stories.

Re: How many people found a house they loved, lost it-- then found something better?
When we were looking for a co-op right before we got married....we found one we LOVED and bid on it....the bid was accepted....and then suddenly they stopped contacting us. Turns out, they accepted another offer and we were out. We were really disappointed.....but it was for the best. We found a better co-op, at a better price, in a better location and actually made a profit when we sold it 2 years later.
When we were looking for houses, we found a few that we thought were perfect.....but things didn't work out with them. Then, we found the perfect house and everything worked out with it....and now we're living in it.
It works out. Promise.

I feel your pain. We're in contract, but so many problems are coming up. I'm trying not to get my hopes up in fear that we'll lose the house.
Sorry I'm no help, but just wanted to give you some

We did! We had an accepted offer fall through because we didnt get to contract quick enough for them (despite them being told it was because our 1yr old was hospitalized for a week )
We drive by it now and are like THANK GOD!
Good luck with this one though

We found the house we loved - but it turned out to be terrible and we pulled out of the deal due to a bad inspection. Then the house we are currently in, the perfect house for us right now, became available on that very same day - it was like fate intervened. And here we are 3 1/2 years later!
Good luck to you! Things will work out.

Re: How many people found a house they loved, lost it-- then found something better?
Yes! We found a house that we loved, agreed on a price, and had the engineer come in to do the inspection. The house came back with some problems, which we could have lived with, but it turned out that the owner had done a ton of work on the house and didnt bother to get any of the CO's. The taxes on the house would have went up quite a bit, and the owner was being very difficult about the whole thing, so we walked.
We ended up buying the next house we saw, and are soooo thankful that we didnt end up getting that other house. We are both absolutely in love with our house!

Re: How many people found a house they loved, lost it-- then found something better?
We did! We fell in love with a house, went to see it 3 times in the same week and when we were there the 4th time with our RA she got a call that the house was sold
We then found a house that was bigger and better (albeit more expensive) but we loved it much more than the first one.
I will say that I do still drive by the other house occasionally and wonder what it would be like if we did live there. Overall I think everything happens for a reason

Re: How many people found a house they loved, lost it-- then found something better?
We did....
We fell in love with a house, put in an offer and were back and forth with the owner for a couple of weeks. It was SO stressful. The seller was nutso anyway, we found out she kept putting her house up on the market then taking it off.
That's what happened, after HER final counter offer, she took the house off the market.
We found the house we are in now a couple of months later. MUCH better house that in the end suited our needs much better than the house we lost.
As it was, about 2 months after we moved into our house, I saw that house on the market again. She did end up selling it, but for much less than what we had offered in the first place.

We did. The second house we saw, I wanted. The 5th house we saw, we were going to bid on, but had to walk away because there was an illegal bathroom and we would have ended up paying higher taxes than listed.
We ended up with a better home and we are waiting for a closing date.

We bid on 4 homes. 3 we lost and 1 that is now ours.
I loved 3 of the 4. none of htem are perfect, I think we would have been happy in all 3 of those, but we both LOVE our house.

We found a house we LOVED. Bid asking price and STILL lost it. We were heartbroken...but almost a year later we ended up finding a property that we loved even more!! This house really feels like OUR home and I'm glad we didn't get that first one we were so set on...because we never would have found our real home

I think I balled my eyes out over 3 homes that we lost in bidding wars, but our current home was most definitely a better investment. No regrets here.

Re: How many people found a house they loved, lost it-- then found something better?
Yes! but we are taking a break for now. We will start looking after our baby is born.
We found a very cute home, it was move in ready, we finally found "the one" after months and months of looking. Our offer was accepted the contracts were being prepared, then my lawyer brought up a good point about the owners under ground oil tank, he had no paper work no service paper work nothing about it, he had 2 one active and one abandoned. We realized we didnt want to take the chance incase the soil was contaminated it would cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars. The seller didnt want us to test the soil, we were wlling to pay 1/2 to abandon the tank he wouldn't do it. We thought something was up. We were so sad, but I always think if its meant to be its meant to be. I know there is a house ofr us somewhere.
Hang in there!

Re: How many people found a house they loved, lost it-- then found something better?
well, i didn't bid on this one home...but I loved it...
it was a young Victorian, which I LOVE..there were little issues though ...not on a good block, right near a compost facility .. and it was overpriced..
the house is now down about 30 grand...but it just wasn't for me.
I've now found another Victorian, bigger..better location.
Now I'm just hoping it goes smoothly..

Same here....we constantly are saying how glad we are we ended up in our current place and not the house that originally broke our heart

Re: How many people found a house they loved, lost it-- then found something better?
We did! Although house #2 isn't a done deal yet.
House #1 appraised at 46K below our contracted price and the sellers refused to budge so we had to walk away. Very next day we found a MUCH better house (for us) and placed an offer which was accepted. Appraisal came back on Tuesday HIGH and we're hoping to close by the end of the month.
I came to realize that I was settling for house #1 and house #2 (which is even less expensive!) was my dream house and that this all happened for a reason.
It was very hard to see this at the time though!
Lots of luck to you.

Re: How many people found a house they loved, lost it-- then found something better?
We bid on three. The first we even did the inspection. Lost it. The second again won the bid, did the inspection. This house was bigger and much better maintain. We lost it. The third house was smaller, no basement, but we loved this house the best. We loved the neighborhood and the backyard was to die for. We got this house.

We backed out of 2 houses after the inspections. We loved both of them but the house we wound up with was by far the nicest of them all.
