NT u/s today! With a couple questions...
All my jitters should be gone after 3pm today as I have my 2nd u/s! I'm 12w3d [according to my first u/s over a month ago] and have told pretty much all the most important people in my life, so I'm coming OUT today to EVERYONE! What a relief it'll be!
Now I have a couple questions about the NT- Can the sonographer begin to assess the measurements DURING my visit? Or is it something read after I leave & reported in a week or so?
Also- How much blood do they take for this test? For my initial blood work I almost passed out but it was A LOT of viles they took outta me. I'm hoping they don't need too much today??
Thanks everyone! I can't WAIT to see my lil one today

Re: NT u/s today! With a couple questions...
The blood is actually a finger prick test, they squeeze out a few dots onto a piece of special paper and send it out to a lab.
The sono tech should not be telling you anything other than what the parts of the baby are - they are not qualified to diagnose or say whether something is "good" or "bad" (even if they might know )
Your OB will go over the results either after the sono or at the next visit.
Good luck, how exciting!

Re: NT u/s today! With a couple questions...
The blood test is a finger stick that they fill in 4 circles on a piece of paper. No vials LOL
I had my NT scan done at my high risk OB so I got my measurements right away this time, with DD they gave them to me at my next Dr appt. If there is something gravely wrong, you'll know because they usually stop the u/s and leave the room for a moment to get the Dr or call your OB.
Some sonographers may give you the fold measurements and you can look up the normal range but I don't know if all will.

Re: NT u/s today! With a couple questions...
the only blood they took from me was a little prick from the finger. they should be able to give you the measurements and how many weeks your measuring. if you have any questions or if they arent telling you whats what (a lot of the stuff they look at looks the same) ask them!! your baby has changed so much since last time its such an amazing thing. Today im going for my 35-36w growth. its amazing how quickly the time goes. i feel like i was just going for my u.s.

Very interesting... So far (with my first u/s) my sonographer gave me NO measurements or numbers, not even the heartbeat.. I asked my OB at my next appt and he said all was perfectly normal. So maybe it's standard in this particular practice to not give out any info?
Thank you!

they told me my measurements were in the normal range, but also said they use that with the blood test (mine was NOT a finger prick, it was one vial!)

Good luck today.
At mine, after the sono tech did the measurements, a dr came in and went over everything with me. They took a few vials of blood from my arm. My OB called me once the bloodwork came back to let me know that there weren't any problems. I guess every place is different.

Yep it sounds like each practice differs with methods of testing... I have a feeling mine will take half my blood supply again waaaaa lol

same here- it was a vial and they said that the dont tell you anything because it has to be combined with the blood test from 12w and from 16w.

Re: NT u/s today! With a couple questions...
My tech left the room, went to the dr. on duty with the images and came back with a printout right away with a print out of results for us. Our sonograms are done at a hospital, so that might be the difference?
