You will get a customs form on the plane on the way back to the US. It'll ask you name, passport info, etc. and also what you bought and the value.

You hand that to the customs agent after you get your baggage and that's it!

i'm pretty sure there is a certain amount of liquor you are allowed to bring back, but i can't remember the amount.

we brought back 2 bottles of wine and 2 bottles of liquor from Italy last summer. we put the liquor in our checked baggage (wrapped up well) and the wine in our carry on. we claimed it on the form you fill out and we didn't have any problems.

If you are buying before you are in the airport, wrap it up well and with towels. We brought back wine on our HM and it was fine. I brought back Limoncello a few months later and it broke. Nothing like lemon scented clothing Chat Icon I never claimed any of it.

we always buy duty free on our way home from Aruba it is usually a lot cheaper than here! They pack it up for you and you carry it on!

Re: buying liquor out of the country...

Like a PP said you fill out a form and give it to customs and that's it. They might stop and check your bags, but that is kind of rare.

I think you are allowed one liter of alcohol, but I think some places in the Caribbean allow two. I'm not sure about this.

I never used to put everything down on the customs form. Never got caught. I don't bring alcohol back with me anymore b/c I don't like to pack it in my checked baggage.
