fabric stores? and maybe some suggestions
I went to joanns yesterday looking for material to cover the dining room chairs that i posted earlier. and well.. they only had one thing i liked and it was special order $29.99 a yard and it was a flash back to platform shoes and bell bottoms is there any other fabric stores i cant check?
i want to do very airy type of a feel to the room. i want to use gray and yellow a friend suggested using either orange or blue as accents... i think id rahter use white. i also really dont like stripes but would go for them if it was something i really liked... please if you have any suggestions or inspirations id love to see!

There's a big fabric place on the LIE service road Eastbound at exit 48 - can't think of the name of it. It's right before the Four Points Sheraton.
You need upholstery fabric, which is thicker and kind of expensive, but overall cheaper than buying a whole new dr set. Measure the seats and add a bit extra to get your total yardage. Even better, bring one of the seats in with you, especially if you want to do a pattern and need to figure out any repeats.

I don't know about fabric stores, but for inspiration you can check out my Inspiring Decor Pics Album . I love white, gray & yellow or blue, gray & yellow. I believe I have some of those color schemes in there, but not 100% sure. There are over 800 pics in that album so I don't remember.

It's called the Fabric Mill. I bought fabric there (two types) one was 9.99/yd, the other was 14.99/yd.

Fabric Mill in Plainview really does have a great selection, much more than Joann's. The prices vary greatly from fairly inexpensive to very expensive. Good luck with your project.

You might have good luck with Duralea (Bay Shore)
There are other fabric stores, but a lot are for quilters (Sentimental Stitches - CSH, Patchwork Quilts - Sayville, One in Massapequa?)

Fabric Mill in Plainview in Plainview is probably the largest retail fabric store on LI. If you live further east there is a good size store in Haupauge on Oser Ave. I stumbled across it yesterday.

Agreeing with above poster...there aren't many fabric stores here on LI just b/c no one sews like they used to.
I sell fabrics to some of the named retailers and Fabric Mill is pretty much the independent retailer around.
You can try in the city as welll but upholstery fabric can get pretty pricey when you have great taste!!:)

Re: fabric stores? and maybe some suggestions
I would try: Fabric Mill Crate and Barrel (you will need to call around only some of them have a fabric department) Ethan Allen
ETS: Good fabric is $$$. You need to find upholstery weight fabric b/c if you just get pretty fabric it could tear the first time someone sits on the seat. As an FYI Crate and Barrel has a 20% off fabric sale every fall so if you can wait until then, you will pay less.
