Re: what do you do with monetary gifts?

We opened a saving's account for our DS and all monetary gifts go in there. Growing up ~ my parents used all monetary gifts ~ so I want to have my DS's money kept separate so he can have his own money! When he is older ~ I will have him deposit 50% in his acct and 50% he can save for something special for himself. Chat Icon

Any money my DD receives goes into her bank account.

Re: what do you do with monetary gifts?

all of the fun money is money we provide.... so if we can't afford it, it doesn't get done.

All monetary gifts go into a high-interest (well, not anymore) account. I personally believe cash is King- but that's just me. I also bought a few stocks to hold for DD (just your regular household name stuff)...

when I give money to a child- I expect it to be saved... but I don't give cash- only bonds.

I put everything in her savings account. If someone gives her $20 or some other small amount such as on easter - I let her buy something at the store if she wants to. Sometimes she says she wants to save it anywayChat Icon

I dont worry about what others do with the monetary gifts I give. I dont mind as long as it goes to the child in some way.

Every penny goes in their savings and I move around into CDS as I see fit.

I don't care what others do with my gift $$.

80% of his money from the baptism went into a 529 plan. THe rest went into a savings account at the bank. All money he gets for holidays & birthdays will go into this account.
