If your DC is in a big bed I have a question - with a poll
Do you have a gate at your childs door?

No and I don't have one by the stairs either. DS never gave us a hard time getting out of his room. If he does get out in the middle of the night he is staring at me

No. It's only been a week in the bed, but in the morning C says "I'm awake!!!!" and we go in and get her out, even though she knows how to get in/out of the bed. Same for naps. But her room is right across from our room and I am the world's lightest sleeper, so I'd hear her if she got up

Yes.....I don't don't trust her walking around my upstairs with a gate on the stairs because we have a railing going all the way around. So we put it on the door and that seems to work for us. She would be wandering around my upstairs in a heartbeat otherwise. Not that she could really fit between the spokes, but you never know.

Re: If your DC is in a big bed I have a question - with a poll
We do, but we've yet to use it. Instead, we have one of the door knob protector things on the inside of his door (he hasnt mastered knobs yet anyway). So anyone on the outside can get in but he cant run around the house at night.
We did it bc he on the opposite side of the house and his bedroom is in the same hall as the bathroom and kitchen entry, so we didnt want him to get out and head to those danger areas while we were sleeping.
Once hes older and can work the door knobs, we will probably take that off and use the retractable gate we have installed across his doorway. So in case of an emergency, he can always open the door (or we leave it cracked) and yell to us, but cant get out on just any old night and wander the house.

Re: If your DC is in a big bed I have a question - with a poll
We dont have a gate. We have a bed rail on one side and the wall on the other. For the first month or so, he never got out. He would call us to get him in the morning. After he figured out that the bottom was open, he would get out in the morning and jump in our bed..
Our bedrooms are on the first floor though and our bedroom doors practically touch, so we dont have to worry about stairs.

Yes, she is only 23 months and would wander around in an unsafe manner, for sure. She is a sneaky little thing.

Yes, she needed it. If the gate wasn't there she was a roamer. She had no problems roaming the dark house at 3 am.
Now that she is 4, I put the gate there but unlocked. She knows how to move it out of the way, but only does so in the morning when she wakes up.

We havent done it yet, but I don't plan on putting a gate on her door. We have a split like you, so I am just going to keep that gate closed at the top of the stairs.

Yes but Landon was only 21 months old and our rooms are the upstairs of a split without a gate on the stairs. I also didn't want him getting into the bathroom.

I have a colonial, but I have a gate at the top of the stairs. I'm more worried about if we forget to shut and lock the bathroom door at night....the kid is obsessed with taking a shower and I can see him jumping in their while I'm sleeping.

No....
We do close his door at night...
The funny thing is that he wont get out of bed. He'll call us to come get him first. Then, if we dont come and get him, he'll get out on his own and come to our room.

We don't have a gate yet but that's b/c Kaydyn hasn't learned how to open doors yet. As she gets bigger and learns how to open the door, we will def get a gate...she is a wanderer.

Not at their doors, but we do have one at the top of the stairs since they have to pass it to get to the bathroom and I'm concerned about them accidentally falling while half asleep.

Re: If your DC is in a big bed I have a question - with a poll
We have a gate at the top of the stairs that we now keep locked at night. I planned to gate her room but she has never tried to get out. When she wakes up form naps or in the morning, she knocks on her bedroom door and calls for us...So it hasn't been necessary. But I would have.

Re: If your DC is in a big bed I have a question - with a poll
mikayla is scared of having the door shut so she sleeps in her bed with the door wide open...if she gets out of bed during the night, she comes right into our bed
she cannot get into KJ's room as we have a doorknob cover on the outside of his door
