Posterior Pelvic Pain (PPP)? Edited with new Q.
I have horrible pain in my very lower back, upper butt-cheek on one side. It hurts when I lift my leg to walk, or get up from sitting..
I Googled it and came across posterior pelvic pain and it seems to jive with what's going on, and didn't offer any comfort in terms of "here's how you can fix this".
Anyone have any experience with this? I don't know if it's even worth bringing up to the OB since it's more orthopedic than anything.
Would love to hear any tales of woe and/or solutions from other preggos that may have had this.
New Q: It hurts to workout... this is really bothering me. I wanted to continue working out throughout my entire pregnancy. Is it ok to workout through the pain? I don't think I'm doing any damage, am I?

Re: Posterior Pelvic Pain (PPP)?
Tale of woe here I know exactly what you are talking about, at first I thought it was sciatica but then I GOT sciatica and they are completely different.
I brought it up to my OB and basically there was nothing to be done. I stretched as much as I could and it actually didn't last all that long, definitely not the entire pregnancy. I had it worse with DS than DD.
I would actually suggest if it gets really bad to see a chiropractor, they can give you a massage and exercises to do to relieve some of the pain.

Tale of Woe here as well. It started for me early like 10-11 weeks and I still have it at 20 weeks. I started seeing a chiropractor 2x a week and im not sure if it is helping. I'm going to try a massage at the chiropractor since I only have to pay my co-pay. It was also suggested I try yoga so thats my next route. Feel better

Re: Posterior Pelvic Pain (PPP)?
Thanks ladies... it's nice to be woeful with others.... for some reason, the worst thing is getting up from the toilet in my bathroom (DH's toilet is fine, but mine sends lightning bolts of pain through me).
If this continues, I may go the chiropractic route too...
God I love these boards.. how do people go through pregnancy without them??

Re: Posterior Pelvic Pain (PPP)? Edited with new Q.
I mentioned this to my OB yesterday. She said simple stretching will help. I haven't tried it yet but my pain is going away at 26 weeks. I hope it doesn't come back!

Re: Posterior Pelvic Pain (PPP)? Edited with new Q.
Now I am wondering what is really giving me this pain. Mine is just on one side (my right hip/butt cheek). DH was rubbing it for me and felt a big knot so I am not sure.

Mine is only on the right too. But I can't get to the pain to massage it. It's way way way in there deep.

Yeah I know what you mean the pain is so deep. The knot was different close to the surface. The other pain is like this awful deep pain that throbs on & off. It is hard to tell if it is in my butt cheek, my hip or where it is coming from. Let me know what your doctor says.

I have this in both hips- BAD. I've ordered a maternity sacroiliac belt so I'll let you all know. In the meantime, I found ONE stretch that really seems to help. Lay on your back and do a pelvic tilt for as long as comfortable.

Actually, it only lasted a couple of days and relieved itself. I've been working out this whole pregnancy and stretching, hoping that helps keep it away. Good luck, I hope you find some relief!

Re: Posterior Pelvic Pain (PPP)? Edited with new Q.
Hi girls, I had very similar pain throughout my pregnancy (starting at 12 weeks!), and ran into different names for it, found books for it, and finally found a way to manage the pain for my entire pregnancy. There is a range of pain that can result from relaxin hormone loosening the pelvis joints. It's not sciatica, and can happen as early as you start to make pregnancy hormones.
See my old posts on Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction
Pregnancy Pain
Anyone have Extreme Pubic Bone Pain or Been Diagnosed with Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction
There is also a book I found, with some good info: "Relieving Pelvic Pain During and After Pregnancy: How Women Can Heal Chronic Pelvic Instability" It has some exercises, and ways to test whether the pain is coming from pelvic instability or somewhere else (sciatica)
Feel free to FM is you have any questions. The pain is really bad, I know, but if you can verify that its pain resulting from your pelvis bones and joints, its totally treatable.

Yep! rest and light walking can give a lot of relief. At my very worst pain, I couldn't sit in the car to get to doctor appointments so I walked miles to them. Walking was slightly less painful than sitting for me. I did a slow waddled walk for about 5 miles to one doctor and then home. When I got home I got enough relief to be able to lie down and sleep after a week of insomnia from the pain.

I do the pelvic tilt stretch standing in a squat type position with my back against a wall. It does help a bit.
