Nicks in wood furniture

What do you do with them? DH suggested using one of our colored sharpies. Chat Icon I said, I want to find out what other people do before I start marking them in.

The nicks I'm talking about are down to the unstained wood. Do you actually go out and get a new can of stain? Seems like a waste. I wonder if there are touch-up bottles or something.

If you check in Home Depot, Lowes, etc they have wood touch up crayons, pens and markers.

My grandmother used to rub a pecan on them (the shell, not the nut) but I'm not sure if that only works on lighter woods.

Re: Nicks in wood furniture

if you get the crayon ones, they are wax I believe and you can blend the colors together to match to your wood.

So what go nicked? Dark piece of furniture? Were the doggies play in the house? Chat Icon

Re: Nicks in wood furniture

I should have known they already had solutions out there. Thanks!!

Jen, it wasn't the furkid troublemakers, it was the human troublemaker! He was connecting our new speakers to the receiver and he had it resting against the front of the media center. Instead of lifting it and setting it nicely back inside the media center, he slid it up the front and put a nice gouge in the edge. Chat Icon

Re: Nicks in wood furniture

I used to work for an antique restoration company and we would use the wax crayons, but in a pinch I will admit that sharpies have been used Chat Icon

Ouch! Chat Icon I've done that too with our entertainment center shelves, but we have doors on that area, so I don't see it. Chat Icon Chat Icon
