Adult allergies?
Why do these things just come out of nowhere? In the last month, I found out I am allergic to cocoa butter, jewelry that is not gold or silver, and estrogen (the stuff in most BCP's). Do adult allergies fade, like kids allergies?

I hope adult allergies fade. I've developed a bunch in the last two years.

Re: Adult allergies?
Adult allergies are very common. In fact, I am going to see an allergist tomorrow b/c all of a sudden I am begining to get hives of some sort on my hands for no reason.

Re: Adult allergies?
I think mine is, too; all of my new issues have to do with food. I don't know how mine and DH's family managed to cook with me in mind for the holidays.

I've never had them either, but for the past 2 years, around this time, I get watery eyes and they BURN. It looks like I've been crying all day.

That's how everything started for me. Good luck with the doctor tomorrow!

Yes, I never got allergies until age 21
You are allergic to estrogen? I'm assuming synthetic estrogen or you's be allergic to yourself... some days of the month more than others
Ugh, gold and silver? Are your wedding rings platinum? I met someone who had to get all new settings in her rings because she developed an allergy to gold and silver... only about 6 months after getting married.

Re: Adult allergies?
LOL! When I found out about that estrogen thing, Dh cracked up. Yep, its the synthetics used in BCP's and Premarin that I am allergic to, not the stuff my body produces.
I'm not allergic to gold and silver, but most other metals. i tried on a pair of cheapo earrings for all of 30 seconds and my ear lobes started to swell and then itch and peel. GROSS!

Re: Adult allergies?
I first started getting allergies to pollen and grass in my late 20's. Since then I get them more severe every year. Right now I have a sinus infection and fluid in my ears thanks to allergy complications. I'm on antibiotics and got a cortisone shot and I'm still dying

Re: Adult allergies?
My allergies resulted from staying in a crappy, moldy apt for 2+ years.

Re: Adult allergies?
Unfortunately you can become allergic to anything at anytime. My father became allergic to strawberries (no other kinds of berries just strawberries) at the age of 40. DH developed an allergy to crab (but no other shellfish) in his 20's.
I used to be allergic to many things like grass, certain trees, mustard etc and I outgrew many of them.
I was told my my ENT and an allergist that apparently people develop new allergies and outgrown others something like every 15 years or something to that effect - so it is very possible that someone who didn't have any allergies might now.
