If you believe solids helped your baby sleep...
How long before you noticed it worked?? I started Colin last night. He is nearly 5 months and still up every 3 hrs to eat. I'm looking to remedy this

That theory didn't work for DD!! She is 7 1/2 months and eats like a champ but still wakes up through the night!

didn't work for us.
eta: Erik didnt STTN until we stopped feeding him during the night. He would wake from habit & want milk, but once he learned he wasn't getting any, his sleeping habits improved.

Re: If you believe solids helped your baby sleep...
it's an old wives' tale.
i've tried so much as giving Em a heaping bowl of rice cereal within hours of going to bed & she still woke up the same amount of times...

I don't think it's an old wives' tale. I think it works for some, not for all (which is why I ask for those that believe it worked for them).
My ped suggested it "could" help so I'm assuming she doesn't follow old wives' tales

i didn't mean any offense by it - our doc said it was an old wives tale...and then she said - try it and see what you think....it didn't work...

Oh no no - none taken! I was just saying I was looking to hear from the moms that actually found success with it - in case it pans out for me, when should I expect a difference?

Sorry...but you know where I'm at!!
I've got Lola on 3 "meals" a day and it's not helping one bit
Bella...started her on solids at 6 months and that's when she started sleeping 10-12 hours a night and never stopped.
I think it truly depends on the child

Re: If you believe solids helped your baby sleep...
Some babies are conditioned or used to waking up frequently. It doesn't always mean hunger, so try to shush him/her back to sleep. It works 90% of the time for me. If he's really hungry, he lets me know.

Well his first wake was 11:48 last night - instead of 11:15 - that's not bad huh?

Re: If you believe solids helped your baby sleep...
DS used to get up every 3-5 hours, but it jumped to 9.5 - 10.5 hours a night the very first day/night we introduced cereal & we haven't looked back since! I didn't think it would help at all, but what a very pleasant & very unexpected surprise!
I don't know if it means anything or if it contributed to it at all, but my DS is EBF & we waited until 6m before we started cereal...
ETA: Do you dreamfeed at all? I had been doing it & found it helped in the beginning, but I also dropped the d/f the night we started cereal & I think that may have contributed to our success as well. I think he didn't need it anymore & that I was prob waking him, causing him to have a worse night overall.

Re: If you believe solids helped your baby sleep...
It works for us sometimes. It worked last night. DS had a 4 oz bottle at 7pm then cereal and banana's and a 2 oz bottle after that. He slept from 815pm-5am. Usually he will have a 5 oz bottle before bed and wake up between 2-3 am for another one.

I don't get the opportunity to dreamfeed b/c he's up before I even get to go to bed. He usually goes to sleep 8/8:30PM and is up at 11:30ish for the first feeding.

Re: If you believe solids helped your baby sleep...
I have no idea if solids had anything to do with DS's sleeping habits. He started cereal just before 6 months. At 6 months, he dropped down to only waking once per night (he had been waking 2-3 times). By 7 months, he was STTN. At that point, he was eating 2 meals per day.

Re: If you believe solids helped your baby sleep...
Amelia will be 5 months on Saturday. We started her this week, and she has been a much happier baby. I usually don't straight until 5 months but she was screaming and crying all day, and once I gave solids she stopped.
