Well you do have the stainless stove and fridge. Get a stainless dishwasher. Prime and paint the cabinets white or ivory. get new counters and tile(or look at the new linoleums out there)

i was just going to say - i love the stainless steel, also!! maybe a new backsplash and put wood or pergo down on the floors? and paint cabinets

We eventually want to reno the kitchen so just looking for quick inexpensive fix. Can you paint formica cabinets? Def changing hinges dishwasher is going to stay black because the stainless one that matches is out of budget, love the ideas ladies keep 'em coming!

Painting the cabinets would be the cheapest, and most dramatic way to update the kitchen.

There are plenty of other sites about painting formica cabinets as well. Just Google "painting formica cabinets"

I would put down pergo or some laminate flooring, you can find it pretty inexpensively. I would leave the backsplahs, but as a quickl fix, glue some bead board over it. Definitely paint the cabinets and get new hardware for the doors.

Depending on your type of dishwasher, if its not in your budget to replace it, you can sometimes get a sheet of stainless steel and slide it into the front.

There is a new countertop resurfacing product out, that will last for a few years, made to cover laminate counters until you have the money to replace them. Ill have to go find it, JldDolphin posted about it not too long ago.

You really can do this on a tight budget without having to rip the whole thing out.

I had formica cabinets & I painted them & I painted the hardware. The hinges are on the outside so I had to keep them, but I spray painted them silver so they didn’t stand out so much. This was almost 3 years ago and they still look the same, they lasted really well. Thankfully we are ripping the whole thing down & renovating this year!!!!

*change out cabinet hardware
*Prime and paint walls and ceiling
*Not sure what your lighting fixtures look like, but changing those out can totally alter the look of a room

WOW!!!! thank you ladies so much these are awsome suggestions and things i would never know we could do on such a tight budget!!!!

kara thank you so much for posting that picture because its so hard to imagine what thoes ugly cabinets will look like painted! the hinges are on the outside of ours also, is the white hard to clean? or is it fairly simple i have a baby and the white cabinets we have now are a PITA to clean.

Paint the cabinets white...it will brighten up the kitchen and stainless steal dishwahser and mosaic tiles for the back spalsh

I would say take out the hinges, paint or stain your cabinet, add some hardware, take off the valence on the window and i think that's about it. THis is the quickest and most inexpensive way.
