Speaking question for 13 month olds

Does or did your child have a vocabulary at 13m and is so how much?

My older dd had a vocabulary not a huge one, but my second dd who is 13m old right now.. doesnt at all. Wondering if I should be concerned? She understands what I say and she points to what she wants, and babbles alot.. just no real words.

Thanks.. havent been on much.

I think at 13 months Michael said mama and dada and babbled a whole lot. I wouldn't be concerend unless there are other red flags that make you concerned...

How have you been???? Can you believe our babies are going to be 3 this September?!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Speaking question for 13 month olds

At 13 months, DS said mama and uh oh. Everything else was dada or some other type of babble. DS says a few more words now at 15 months, but not much. We just had his 15 month appointment and our pediatrician said he was right on schedule. I'm sure doctors have different opinions, but ours said he'd like to see at least 5 words by 18 months.

DS is 14 months and babbles all day long. He sometimes says stuff, but I'm so confused if its a real word or not.

DD is 14 months today and says a TON of words, but I dont think that is the norm. She probably says close to 25 words consistently.

Re: Speaking question for 13 month olds

Thanks everyone.. I dont see any other red flags.. she interacts with my older dd, and is able to entertain herself. Just no words. Shes babbling a way right now, as if having a conversation with someone in her own way lol.

Re: Speaking question for 13 month olds

My boys are 13.5 months and they only say dada, mama, baba and a whole lot of babbling. I was getting nervous. I'm a speech therapist so I try to do a lot of prompting but they have no interest so I'll just keep doing what I am doing and I am sure one day they won't stop Chat Icon

Re: Speaking question for 13 month olds

DD is 13 months and really the only word she uses in the correct context is "hi"

She can say cat, and everything else is "dat"

She does not say mama, or dada. We had her 1 year well visit last week and the ped wasn't concerned.

Re: Speaking question for 13 month olds

I would try not to worry. I worked at a daycare center for 5 years in the infant rooms and most kids only had a couple basic words around that age.

Re: Speaking question for 13 month olds

I was going to post a similar question. DS is 15 months and all he ever said was dada, now he says "dat" for everything. He rarely says mamaChat Icon

I am not too concern but I am starting to get a little worried because he shows no interest at all in trying to say any words. Its starting to get frustrating because all he does it point and whines and then cries when we can't figure out what he wants.....
