Re-post from Parenting- commack vs. kings park- need opinions!

Hi ladies! I am a mommy of two little ones. I was hoping I could get some opinions from other ladies who know the northport/commack/kings park areas.

We are in East Northport now but may be getting an offer on our house soon.
We are on a main road so we are looking to move.

DH grew up in Kings Park and wants to move there. I grew up in Brooklyn and I am leaning towards Commack- just a bigger more diverse feel. I am Jewish and DH is Catholic- we will be raising our children "both"- as best we can.

Any thoughts from other ladies on these areas and the schools? I just don't know too much- I've only lived here five years.......

Thanks so muchI really appreciate your honest opinions!

I grew up in KP as did my DH and its a fabulout town! I think it has a good mix of reilgions (catholic and jewish). There are definitely more catholic people but I went to a ton of bar/bas mitzvahs growing up with people I went to KP schools with.

Its a really community, family oriented town, lots of outdoor activities. Great schools, great programs. It had a small town vibe which is one of my favorite things about it. Its a good mix of blue collar, middle class and well to do families, but money doesnt play a roll in how people in the community view one another which is great.

DH and I are currently in Smithtown bc we bought during the housing bubble and couldnt afford (at the time) to stay in KP but we didnt really want to leave, so we settled in Smithtown so we could stay as close as possible bc we love it there so much.'

FM me with any specific questions you have.

I dont think you can go wrong in either place.

DH grew up in KP. We both really like it there and would have moved there in a second. When we looked we zero-ed in on Commack, KP, and Smithtown. We wound up in Smithtown and I love it here, but would have been happy in either.

I think the taxes in Commack and Smithtown tend to be more than KP.

While I think KP schools are good and I wouldnt hesitate to send my DS there, I think that Commack might technically be ranked higher (whatever the rankings really mean) People move to Commack for the SD. I also think that you might get more in Commack as far as extras that you might not get in a smaller SD like KP.

As an example - My BIL just moved from Elwood to East Northport my niece said the classes (electives) she ahd to choose from where more varied than at her old school.

As far as town, KP has more of that small town feel where as with COmmack being its much larger I am not sure it would be the same.

taxes are lower in KP than commack and i like that kings park has a "main street" /town area.

commack is a larger school district and there is a larger jewish population in commack.

i grew up in kings park. i liked the fact that it was a small town feel but everything you could possibly need is within 10-15 minutes.

you really cant go wrong either way!

good luck!

We looked in KP and Commack. When it came down to it we based our decision on the school district. Our address is Smithtown but we are Commack schools. We are not far from KP either.

Both are excellent. You can't go wrong with either one.

I grew up in KP. I would personally prefer KP to commack because I prefer the small town feel and I like the fact that KP is on the water and has a main street (even if there is absolutely nothing on main street worth stopping for). There is soooo much more in KP now than when I grew up and I still thought it was fine back then.

I think the schools in Commack are probably a little better if only for the fact that they are bigger and probably have more to offer. But it's not like my friends from Commack are doing so much better, or went to better schools than KP. It's pretty much all the same demographic.

As far as religious diversity, both have a large jewish and christian population so I don't think that will matter too much for you - although I do believe there is a JCC in commack which might be nice for you.

Commack is more convenient but KP is more quaint..... That's kind of how I would sum it up.

being from east northport its hard to pick between commack and kp.
i think commack sd might be better but the taxes are higher.
kp has a cute town (main street), commack doesn't.
I would stay in east northport
