I need quick home design help! Pictures included.
I'm going to try to explain this as succinctly as possible.
We have a wall that separates our living room from our dining room. It contains three picture-frame mouldings. Our plan was to remove the third "frame" thereby opening up a walk-through between the two rooms. An opening already exists at the start of the wall into the foyer area--this is around 60 inches; we can't make the opening the same size on the other side because of these mouldings, but wanted it as symmetrical as possible.
So, they opened it up today and I love it...but it's more narrow than I had hoped. I think they could have opened it at least six more inches. In addition, we have picture frame mouldings in several areas of our home and the space in between the mouldings and the wall is always SIX inches. The space in between the moulding and the new opening is TWELVE inches.
Can you tell what I mean here? Here's the existing opening...
and here's the new opening...
Now for the question...would you say something and have them expand the opening further, negating some of the work they've already done, or leave well enough alone since it looks fine as it is?

It looks great, but the asymmetry would probably drive me nuts if I left it that way. I'm not good at speaking up when I'm not 100% happy with work someone has done, but in the end you have to remember that it's your money and your house, and YOU have to live with it. They should do it to your satisfaction.

I would say something and have them open it up another 6 inches...
That's what *I* would do b/c I know I'd look at that opening every day and say to myself 'should have asked them to make it wider...'

i agree with both of them...while it looks fine, it would totally drive me nuts everytime I looked at it. Otherwise, Id have to take the moulding down and recenter it between the two doorways.

Hmm, I know what you mean about symmetry and stuff, but is it possible that they can't go wider because of code regs or could there be a stud in the wall that would make it impossible? We opened up a few walls in our house and ran into all sorts of issues because the beams running up and down weren't all evenly spaced like they should be.

Thanks everyone! I did ask them about it because it would have driven me crazy otherwise.

It turns out this WAS the problem. Opening it up just a couple of inches more would really have been opening up a whole can of worms.
I'm satisfied with the answer and thrilled with the way the room looks overall!!
