Yep, the Woods is not so woodsy. This is my neighborhood - we tried to take backroads to Thom Thom last night and could barely get there.

I had to keep making uturns to get through to poulson.

We had to drive from Bellmore to Wantagh Saturday night, and were detoured due to part of Merrick Rd. being closed. We came down Wantagh Ave., and the Hess station awning (the whole structure that covers the pumps) had come down and was being held up by trucks. It was crazy!

im from seaford --- my mom had to park her car down the block on saturday night and walk home in the rain because her street (seaford ave) was blocked by fallen trees in BOTH directions! HUGE trees. i think that area got the brunt of it

I saw that was well. It is all closed now and they put a temp fence around it.
Right down that block there (the street that takes you onto the wantagh parkway north) huge tree fell across 2 houses.
The lights at the precint on merrick road are out too and theres a ton of trees down at that 711 there as well, the news was there last night.

Re: Yikes wantagh looks like a war zone
our neighbor (we live in duckpond) across the street has a house that has the "A" line roof and her big pine tree fell nice and cozy right on top. didn't hurt anything, if fact, it looks like it belongs there.
craziness!
i spoke to our insurance guy on sat. night and he said massapequa was slammed!

We are in Bellmore and it was CRAZY there.
I saw on the news last night that they're asking FEMA to come in and clean up.
I feel lucky, we only lost power for half hour and I still have all my trees!

Re: Yikes wantagh looks like a war zone
Yep, I'm in Wantagh and it's pretty bad here. We had a beautiful 25-foot pine tree fall clean across our side yard into our front yard. It stinks (it was a lovely tree) but could have been worse - if it fell in any other direction it would have hit our house, our neighbor's house, or the street/power lines.
I work in Farmingdale and I have to say, I think South Farmingdale/North Massapequa got it way worse though.

Re: Yikes wantagh looks like a war zone
Wantagh El has no power today LIPA is there now cleaning up and resetting the lines. School is in session!
I was driving around Wantagh this am picking up stuff for my Cub Scout Pack and it was crazy. I was detoured all over the place due to down wires and trees. There are so many beautiful trees lost to this storm. Thankfully all we have to deal with is a little damage to our fence and a few small branches yo pick up.

I'm in Bellmore, and we apparently lost power this morning, b/c I woke up 10 minutes after my alarm should have gone off, and the clocks were flashing and the cable box was resetting itself. Yesterday morning I saw the clocks flashing also, but I had no idea when we lost power.

We lost it Sat night--but my friend around the corner, she lives right off Walterhoffer, had a tree fall from her neighbor's backyard onto their house which currently looks like this:
And they also had a tree fall on the transformer, has had no power since 6P sat night and they're saying she might not have it back til FRIDAY!!!!!!!

Oh, no, that's awful! I saw so many trees down in my neighborhood, but thankfully none on my little cul-de-sac. There are three huge pine trees in the yard behind ours, and I was terrified they were going to come down.

Re: Yikes wantagh looks like a war zone
Yep- it is BAD!
My in-laws live in Wantagh- and a HUGE tree fell across the street- and its still there! It took 3 telephone polls with it! They havent had power since Saturday- and LIPA doesn't anticipate that they will have power until AT LEAST Wednesday.
We are in Seaford- and we were fine- but going from my house to DD's daycare (approx 1 mile)- I saw 4 major trees that had fallen!
I've never seen anything like this before!

Re: Yikes wantagh looks like a war zone
I'm in south Seaford and our area was a disaster area! At one point, to go north to Merrick Road, I had to head south, then east and then north to get to Merrick!
We had no power for 4 1/2 days. It was a nightmare, especially with a 2 year old!
Luckily, we had very little damage. A few houses down lost their upstairs windows. A lot of people had roof damage.
Unbelievable!
