SAHM that EBF and don't pump on a regular basis - Q for you
You think I would remember this from the first time around - but, nope
If you know you have to go somewhere and need to build a supply how do you do it - when do you pump if you are nursing DC for every feeding? How do you get enough milk and not take it away from DC if that makes sense? How long in advance do you start pumping? How long is the BM good for in the fridge?
TIA SOOOO much!!!

I do not pump that often. When I do, I use a hand pump, Medela, and like it very much. I have about 30 ounces in the freezer now for babysitting and such.
I get the best pump an hour after DS' first feeding in the morning... around 7am or so. If you're feeding every hour, I'd just do half way between feedings. You'll make more milk and the baby will get it even if you do not see it in the pump.
If you have BM storage bags, or the pump box, they usually have a shelf life chart. I believe it's 10 hours at room temp. 3 days in fridge, 3 months in freezer... I think.
Here's a link to a storage chart...
I also try to pump at night after DS goes to sleep but I do not get as much as in the morning. Every little bit counts!

Thank you! I think that probably after the first feeding is perfect since then I have the most left over...it's so hard to find the time to pump, wash the pump parts AND nurse her while taking care of my toddler as well But, i have events i need to go to without her so i better start pumpin!
Thanks so much!

I hear ya! For me it's always, pump, shower or vacuum?! Have you considered the hand pump? Very minimal parts to wash and you can pump, store and feed right from the same bottle.
