Spinoff to "same look for less" thread

There are certain furniture pieces that I would not sacrifice for quality, such as dining room set, mattresses, livingroom seating and storage pieces (wardrobes and chests). But there are certain things that you are d@mn skippy that I will not pay full price for (i.e. my breakfast nook) and certain decorative pieces. I've gotten things on sale or in other stores that look similar to very expensive items I've seen in Crate & Barrell, Ballard Designs, etc. My most recent purchase is the linen bed from Overstock.com (see my recent thread) and a picture by Volk called "Warmth" that I've been eyeing forever. Obviously I can't afford the original but a replica from Ballard Designs would run me around $300 and I got mine from TARGET for $65 (see pictures and tell me if you can see a difference) in the same size 30x30". I have to say that the one from Target has much richer colors than the one from Ballard, it is thicker, has a nice black wood band around the picture and it looks like a real canvas too!

What are some of your findings that you got a great deal on?

I can't find it now but back when I purchased this it was $299 + $20 shipping on Home Decorators.com.

I got it at Overstock for $165. + $2.95 shipping.



eta: It was the EXACT same table.

Thanks! Home Decorators is sooooo overpriced! After Ballard Designs of course! My breakfast nook was listed at $500 on Home Decorators and I got the SAME EXACT one for $300 PLUS shipping from diningtables.com...unbelievable!

Nice find! I did the same thing for my Seagrass ottoman in my Family Room. I kept shopping around and finally found online that was under $200 and I love the color and shape. It's not exactly what I wanted, but it's close. There are so many great finds out there, you just have to really really look sometimes. I always look to Target, Pier 1 (sale), Overstock, Home Goods, Google for it online and sometimes I'm shocked what I find for less.

hey man, I LOVE Ballard. but I only buy on SALE!

overstock is great. I think one of our best deals was a 37 inch Philips flatscreen for $999 (and $2.95 shipping)

and our solid hardwood bed. also on overstock.

but I am uber cheap and buy EVERYTHING on sale.

also like to buy from art.com and allposters.com when they are having a sale. we've gotten some great artwork.

then there are always our MAJOR scores from antique shops. no pressed board in sight.
