Newbie to this board...career change...and 1st semester master's student - NEEDS HELP!
Hello all!! I began my master's program in Elementary Education this semester....I am a new mom, so I am taking 4 online courses
I have a final project due next month and I am having problems understanding what the professor wants....here is what she is asking for. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...thank you sooo much!!!
"Prepare a literacy lesson, complete with mini lessons as per text book. You should report the development, application, and analysis of one or several lessons/activities to teach a literacy lesson. Describe why those activities/lessons can help students to develop literacy skills and construct meaning."

She seems to want a mini lesson, based on the textbook, so I would use that format. She also asks for the development of the lesson, how you will apply it to the students and how you would analyze their understanding.
Next, tell why these activities within the lesson will help students develop their skills in literacy.
Hope it helped somewhat! Good Luck

I think she wants one major lesson taught by using multiple mini lessons.

it sounds like she maybe wants differentiated guided reading lessons with the same learning object but different activities.
you would think a professor of literacy would be able to express the assignment more clearly, LOL.

I am in agreement with the above posters. But does she want you to teach the material from the text or for a specific grade?

Ok, so I DON'T ned to create 1 lesson, followed by multiple mini lessons?!! I need to create mini-lessons, focused around 1 topic or theme?

Exactly! If you were to teach for example the genre of fiction writing,...
you would introduce the topic of fiction, the elements, sentence starters, etc....
Do you know if the book follows Teacher's College format?

Not sure of the format...this is the BOOK we are using.
I would like to create these lessons for the younger grades, possibly 1st or 2nd. Can I just chose a book and create lessons around the book?

I can't believe how much that text costs! Does it have sample lessons? If so, i would follow that format.

Re: Newbie to this board...career change...and 1st semester master's student - NEEDS HELP!
I wrote my professor just to clarify what we have determined here on LIF....this is what she wrote me back:
"The text used must be a "trade book" that can be integrated into all content areas. The mini-lessons can be the integration into different areas."
What is a TRADE BOOK?
I swear this prof. thinks I am supposed to know what this stuff is...even though this is master level, she needs to take into consideration that I have never stepped foot in a classroom....this is not what I have my undergrad degree in!!
