Help me understand this oil contract
Okay, I have so much on my mind with the new house, I'm having trouble understanding this.
I've narrowed down oil companies to Petro and Perillo.
Petro is offering me a $2.94 ceiling with a first delivery at $2.74, and a $99 contract for one year, $125 after that if we renew. This took a lot of haggling.
Perillo is offering me a $2.89 ceiling with the first delivery at $2.54, and a 2-year contract for $45. BUT - although the service contract is for 2 years, the ceiling is only good until October 1 of this year - 7 months from now. After Oct. 1 we can stay with them and honor the contract, or break it free of charge and go with someone else.
I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around Perillo's deal. Is it good or bad to have a 2 year service contract and a ceiling that's good for 7 months and up for re-negotiation then?

I would go with Petro. My neighbors love em and I wish I'd switched to them when Meenan was jerking me around.
Perillo is being sneaky lol (arent they all) but, there is a reason why the ceiling is up Oct. it starts to get really cold and WHAM!! they deliver for high $3.++

Re: Help me understand this oil contract
We don't have a contract and the most we have ever paid was $2.74 a gallon. This was last week that I got the oil delivery and they came within 30 minutes of my call.

Just FYI -- Meenan is owned by Petro!
That aside, we have Petro and are happy with them. We have a small house and no dishwasher (for now!) and just the two of us so we don't use a ton of oil, so as a result we didn't do any of the ceiling programs. My dad is in the industry and he told me that while it protects you should the prices spike, you could potentially be paying more on an average delivery than the lowest available price because they are trying to recoup some of the money they could be losing when you hit the ceiling.
Not sure that makes sense, but the prices aren't bad either way and the Petro contract seems more cut and dry - and we are very happy with their service - so that would be my recommendation!

Re: Help me understand this oil contract
In the case of the two contracts you lised I would go for the one with Petro. October is when pricing really starts to skyrocket because it is the season.
We currently have a ceiling plan with Petro and I am pretty sure I want to look into other options for next season. I feel that all of my deliveries were made at the highest points for oil during the timeframe they would typically need to deliver within the contract terms.

Um... I would go with a company that won't charge you a contract fee!

Re: Help me understand this oil contract
I would go with Petro. We have our contract with them rght now and have used them in the past - they have by far the best customer service and are available 24/7. They really do mean their ad - when the heat goes out at 1am, you know they will respond. They did for us one time it happened.

Thank you for all the responses!
It seems like you're overwhelmingly recommending Petro. I guess I'll go with them but I'll try calling them tomorrow to see if they can come down a bit in price. Couldn't hurt! She came down 3 different times in the same phone call yesterday.
