Would the appearance of the next-door neighbors home have any effect on your decision to bid on a house?

absolutely - we passed over many houses due to the direct neighbors, or the block -

Definitely! I would rather buy the disgusting house than the one next to it.

Re: Would the appearance of the next-door neighbors home have any effect on your decision to bid on a house?
My house was falling apart when I bought it. It was so bad that people knew the exact house I bought when I told them the name of the street. There was an old lady who lived here and just couldnt keep it up. Now my house is one of the nicest. I would buy next to an ugly ducking as long as all the other houses looked nice. If you call the town to compain about the condition they sometimes will make the owner fix bad problems or they'll issue fines

That was HUGE for us. Other people may not care but we definitely did! I would not want to live next door to a house like that....
Ditto!

Re: Would the appearance of the next-door neighbors home have any effect on your decision to bid on a house?
Sort of. If it was REALLY ramshackle, I'd be wondering if the neighbors were freaks.. or if they were just too old/poor/physically incapable of fixing it. That would actually make a difference.
If the neighborhood was dotted with homes that were busted, or un-manicured lawns.. I definitely wouldn't want to buy there.
I would have no problem BUYING the busted up house to fix up though.
