was in the hospital last night for 5 hours..

i am 23 weeks pregnant and around 3:30pm yesterday i started feeling some serious period like cramping. it was getting persistent so i called my ob who said to go to the hospital and get a labor check. after 5 hours they sent me home. i had some mild contractions but my cervix was closed, baby's heartbeat was fine so they put me on bedrest for 1-2 days. they said i was probably dehydrated.

has anyone else gone through this? it scared the crap out of me. even though this is baby #2 for us, this pregnancy has been so different (and easier).so of course i started to panic.

I have not gone through this myself but that does sound scary!

I'm glad everything is ok, aside from the fact that you're shaken up.

I went through something similar about 3 weeks ago (I was 32 weeks). I was getting period like cramps one night, they went away, but came back early the next day.

Being it was during the day I was able to go to the office and they hooked me up to the fetal monitor to check the baby's HB and to see if I was having contractions. they also tested to see if I was secreting a hormone that apparently you secret before going into labor (sorry, I cant remember what the test was called). They also did an internal sonogram to see how my cervix was - the DR said i was "beaking" (it looked like a duck's bill).

I was sent home to rest for 2 days, told to drink a lot of water and to REST. my dr said that I probably over exerted myself and was dehydrated.

I quickly learned to listen to my body! if ever i'm feeling tired, I just rest and make sure I drink a LOT of water. I've been fine ever since...except for the heartburn, but that's completely normal even though it sucks big time! LOL

I've had period-like cramping since 25 weeks and mild contractions and I am 38 weeks pregnant and everything is fine! My Dr. said that it's totally normal. Just drink a lot of water and when you feel cramping try to lay down. There are plenty of women who feel these sensations and it does nothing to the cervix or indicate labor. Some women never experience cramping, Braxton Hicks, etc. Try not to worry about it.

I'm glad everything is ok. Just rest up for a few days, given all this snow coming, I wouldn't venture out! Enjoy being in the house, put your feet up and watch some good ol' movies!!!
