20% plus all of the closing costs!! Ugh, I did not have much leftover but I would not be surprised if my DH has money stuffed in a mattress somewhere.

First house- 10%
Second house- almost 60%... we wanted to have a nice reasonable mortgage payment
Both times we had a large emergency fund left over plus other investments. I was too nervous to put every dollar we had available into the down payment.

5% down. had $10k left over for initial/immediate improvements and work plus new furniture.

We put down 10% and were left with about 3 months of expenses in the bank afterward.
