hi-hats - question again.
do you have to rip out your ceiling shitrock for them to install? hasn't anyone installed them without having to do this? this seems like so much more work than it should be.
please advise.
thanks!

Re: hi-hats - question again.
When we put ours in, DH and my dad just cut circles out of the existing sheetrock.

i would think this could be done but i think you would need to have electric nearby to tap into and then run all the wires.

Re: hi-hats - question again.
they can just cut in the sheetrock but you have to buy slightly different fixtures that fit in the hole. If you are having an electrician doing this they know which ones.
I ripped down the sheetrock since we gutted the entire kitchen and ran all new electrical in there it was easier than trying to fish wires in the old rock....plus the walls had all new so the ceiling would have looked yucky next to the nice new walls

cut holes in but we do not have a second floor. You can still cut the holes and feed the wires through but its tricky.

Re: hi-hats - question again.
it depends when we had ours done not only did hole have to be cut but so did the ceiling to run the electric and because my beams ran vertical they had to drill holes into the beams so every single beam and sheetrock had to be exposed and then the wall too where the switch was. oh well but love it

My DH did the same thing, had a template for the size of the hole he wanted to make. There was no spackle work afterwards because the lip of the hi-hat covered up any irregularity of the hole.

the only spackle work is if you ahve to cut more of the ceiling to get the wiring through.....if its just the holes then the trim ring should cover anything.
