Lord help me - update!

after we removed the boiler from the kitchen, we had a big pit in the floor so we decided to redo the floor. if you are going to redo the floor, why not the cabinets too, and the counter...

so, i am living through a kitchen gut.

my house is a dusty mess and i am doing dishes in the bathroom sink.

i asked my dad to replace all the outlets with white ones, so DH turned off all the breakers to find the one controlling the kitchen, well, i no longer have power in my bathroom and office and some of my bedroom...
i can't wash the night time dishes (good excuse right Chat Icon because i can't see.

so... wish me luck.

today, we had plumber here to move the heat to allow for a kick heater instead of running in a vacant peice of ktichen that they left open rather than putting cabinets b/c of the heat.

tomorrow, guy comes to lay mud for it to dry good to then put porcelain tiles down. they will also finish the sheetrocking and taping and spackeling. he thinks he will be here until tuesday of next week .. then we can install the cabinets ourselves. get the template done for the granite, put in the new ceiling fan and our new appliances, and call it a day.

that's what we have been up to.

any advice from those of you who have done this before??

today they mudded the floor about 1" in one spot 1/2" in another spot, i will have to have my door shaved down once i get the tiles down... tomorrow.
then sheetrock will be finished. then we are figuring on putting in highhats, so a little more spackle work there.

how much would you pay for four or six high hats?

No, no advice but kudos to you for getting this all done so quickly. Wow, you really know what you wanted done and got it done right away! You're going to post pictures, right? Chat Icon

Good luck with all this! I know you're suffering now but it'll be so worth it when you have your brand new kitchen.

Re: Lord help me

I am living it right now but add in that we gutted the entire first floor and most of the 2nd floor. The dust will go away months after you finish.....

I grew up in a house that was constantly being renovated so this is old hat for me....

At least you have someone doing the work.....We are working on it during the weekends and most nights.
All I can say is stay calm and ignore the dust cause even if you clean 10 mins later it will look the same.

Re: Lord help me

So Rachael - your kitchen looks like mine right now. Sux that you have to live there through it though. Where are you getting the Granite from? I saw that Napoli in Seaford is running a really good deal right now for $1999. It includes a choice of 7 or 8 slabs, 5 edges, a free stainless steel sink, template, and install. The price is for 30 Feet, and anything over that is $55 a foot.

anyway, i put in an order at napoli but then my husband went to queens and found a price of 1800.00 installed with kitchen, includes backsplash 1 1/14 inch thickness ... someone on this board suggested it. same peice that i saw at napoli that i loved that was included in their special. i have 38.5 sq ft, not alot, it was still over their sale price...

score there, for sure! and only three days from template to install.

6 highhats will cost less than 100 for the actual lights....you can buy them in a box of 6 at HD or Lowes. If you need them installed I have no idea cause we did all our own work.
