My hairdresser won't give me red highlights.

It's kind of annoying. Every time I go to her for highlights, I say " i think I want to do red" and she says "But red fades so fast, let's just do a nice golden caramel." And she does a great job...but I want red!

Should I cheat on her when it comes time for my next highlight appointment?

If it's something you really want then go to someone else. Maybe your hairdresser is wrong or if she's right you can go back to her and have her fix it. I love changes. My old hairdresser hated when I came in with different ideas. The one I see now loves me b/c I always try something different. Def post pics!

I've never gotten my hair colored or done anything all that different to my hair so maybe I just don't understand....but how can she say no? You're paying her to do what you want. It's not like you're asking her to shave your hair off and tatoo the back of your head with a racial slur.

Can't you just tell her that you don't care that it fades, you want to try it and thats the only color highlight you will let her do. If she's not going to do it you will do somewhere else. I can't imagine she will still insist if she knows you're serious.

Although I think that is true, it seems strange.

I understand when they explain why something will or won't work with your hair, or how you will have to approach it differntly to get the results you want , but fading seems like a dumb reason.

It just means you'll have to go back f more frequently, which she should love!

I would be more insistant next time & if she says no, tell her you want to skip the highlights, and then go somewhere else.

I was going to someone the past year who never wanted to do anything radical EVER (the salon was in nyc)...

SO 2 weeks ago I made an appointment at a new salon (one on LI) planning to go brunette..

AN hour before the appointment I decided I would ask if I could go red because it's what I always wanted, especially after loving Ashley Simpson and Debra Messing's red hair for years...

The new stylist didn't even FLINCH when I showed her the picture of Ashley's hair...

And guess what? I'm a red head, I love it, and I'm SO GLAD I broke up with my colorist.

SO find someone who will listen to you!

I have had red hair through a single process and through low lights. It NEVER lasts. Id still try someone else though.

I used to get red highlights and it did take me a while to find someone who was willing to do them. I don't know what that's about

But like everyone else said, they do fade fairly quickly... but as long as you know that going into it I don't see why anyone should tell you no.

I get red highlights in my hair and they fade to a golden caramel color. I tend to get highlights every 4 months just about. I love the color they fade to, so it's not a problem for me.

The amount you wash your hair will also affect how long the highlights last. I tend to wash my hair every 3-4 days, so maybe that's why I don't have a huge fading problem. I also use L'Oreal shampoo for color treated hair.

where do you go? I'm thinking of getting golden caramel highlights . And next time I would just say: you know , I REALLY would love to try red

Just wanted to let you know I your hair! Where did you get it done?

(Mine's red too.. but darker )

and to the OP.. yes.. it definitely does fade faster.. but if that's what you want she shouldn't be telling you no.. I would maybe call to make the appt. with your usual girl on the phone and tell her your ready to go red and kind of insist.. if she still seems opposed to it then go somewhere else

it could be awkward to go in and then have her more or less tell you "no" and then have to leave

I would look into another person. It is your hair and YOU have to be happy!!
