we just fed her with it, and sometimes she would take it and try to put it in her mouth herself... other times she would just hold onto it with one hand and eat with another... we really didnt rush it- she now likes to do it herself more and more and even asks for her spoon or fork...

I used to guide DS hand to "stab" the food. He is doing very well all on his own now. Make sure to use the "right" food too. A baby wont have enough strength and dexterity to stab a green bean, but the consistency of a meatball works great in the beginningChat Icon

You're ahead of me.

AJ is 17m (nearly 18) and spoons and forks are toys. Toys she rarely sees at feeding times unless we are using it to feed her. she just uses her hands on everything. If I give her a spoon she uses it to scoop and fling food so she doesnt ge them.

Thankfully Daycare will teach her Chat Icon Honestly they have a whole little program for it when they hit 2. It invovles table manners and use of tables, chairs, cups and silverware.

For now I try to give it to her when its less messy items but its all just a game to her. *shrug*

If she's 8 and eating with her hands I'll worry until then I dont really worry about it.

Try imagining teaching your child to use Chopsticks! Chat Icon I didnt learn that until I was in college and now I've got to figure out how to teach AJ hahaha THAT should be fun! Chat Icon

Consistency is key. Just keep doing what you're doing -she'll get it!

I'm not saying Mason knows what he's doing, but he's been trying to feed himself lately and honestly... I wish he'd let me. Chat Icon Chat Icon Did you see the pics I posted? He's a mess. I found food in his hair, ears, etc
