Dishwasher-which one do you have and
is the tub (inside of the dishwasher) plastic or steel? We are looking for a new one, we want something under $500 . The sales person at Sears told us (and I read on the internet) that the one with steel tub is much better than the ones with plastic. But the problem is that every dishwasher I see with steel tub under $500 has gotten really bad reviews and I saw few with plastic tub that's gotten great reviews.
anyway.... which one do you have and would you recommend it?
Thank you!

I just did a bunch of research and read that the stainless tub IS better...I have websites, if you are interested, that rate best buys, but unfortunately, those are a bit over $500 (which was my limit, too, but once we spent less on the fridge, I spent a little more on the dishwasher)

Re: Dishwasher-which one do you have and
We have a simple Maytag. It has the steel inside (and outside). It is my first dishwasher so I really have nothing to compare it with, but I LOOOVE it! It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles. The next one that we get will. For instance, I would love to be able to pause a wash. Or have an air dry option or be able to just wash the upper rack or something like that. We have had one problem with it. One of the caps on the tines of the bottom rack came off (???) and got stuck and made this horrible grating sound. DH and I took the whole thing apart (very carefully) and found it. Other than that, I love it.
My IL's had one of those upscale GE models (the silent kind) and it turned on by itself, didn't do a wash, just heated the contents up and melted stuff inside. Turns out, it was a common problem and GE completely replaced it considering it could have started a fire.
So keep reading the reviews and see if any models have been recalled and for what reason.

Oh and which fridge did you get ? We are thinking of upgrading all our appliances....
We have Kitchenaid DW now, it was already here when we moved, it's from 2004 and it's one of those high end ones, with steel tub. But it's not washing that well any more, the dishes on the top rack come out dirty . Not sure what happened to it. We would have it fixed , but it's going to cost over $200 so we might as well buy a new one

Re: Dishwasher-which one do you have and
Is it possible that it is clogged with food? 2004 wasn't that long ago. Have you tried switching detergents? Also, is it possible that big pots are blocking the top rack from getting the water they need to be cleaned?
Just something to consider before you spend your money!

MIL has a Bosch - and had one in her last home.
It is on the higher end of the price range but I have to say, I think it is the best dishwasher known to MAN!

Re: Dishwasher-which one do you have and
We purchased a Kitchen Aid dishwasher that is pretty basic, but has what I need...I don't really do a load unless it's full, etc...so it's alright..and it has heated dry...we also purchased a Samsung fridge-everything is coming tomorrow, so I'll let you know how it all turns out...here's some websites I found in my travels that really helped-just don't let your head spin...
One more thing to mention-once you read, know what your priorities are on what you want to spend, etc. I wanted a dishwasher that would take care of food waste if it's in there, and some brands, like Bosch, do not have those...they are VERY quiet, however..they also do not heat dry, they use condensation, which means the tub is wet much of the time...
Enjoy!

That's what I was going to say!
Have you tried troubleshooting it??? Does it have a food trap that needs to be emptied?

Re: Dishwasher-which one do you have and
definitely check the food trap but if thats not it- I have a plastic tub one and it works great- if the stainless is out of your budget, dont do it.
I also just wanted to mention this website- we bought our fridge from them- it was $50 shipping and no tax- homeeverything.com and very reasonable.
Also there is a NY rebate on certain appliances, so that may help too- I think its good until 2/21

Re: Dishwasher-which one do you have and
We just bought a new dishwasher. After a TON of research, we bought a Kenmore from Sears. I looked at Consumer Reports and the one we got was a BR Best Buy pick. The tub is plastic.
I've had dishwashers my entire life. The difference between a stainless steel tub and the plastic tub is the staining (as in cleaning plates will eventually stain the plastic tub so it is not bright white). I can honestly say I don't care AT ALL what color the inside of my dishwasher is 10 years from now because by that time I'll need a new one anyway!!
This is the dishwasher we bought.

Re: Dishwasher-which one do you have and
The only thing we haven't tried yet is checking and cleaning the food trap , so I guess we'll check and see what happens.
THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE!

Re: Dishwasher-which one do you have and
as the others have said, check the drain to see if it is clogged, and also check the sprayer arm to see if the holes may be clogged as well. My 11 year old dishwasher has a plastic tub, and I have never had a problem with the plastic tub. The dishwasher is noisy though, so I would never recommend it (GE Quietwash). A new one is on my wish list, not the need list. As soon as the wash cycle is finished, I turn of the dishwasher and open the door to let everything air dry. Three reasons : the residual heat of the dishes dries them within minutes, the tub and racks dry themselves off, and this way saves on energy costs. Just stand back for the burst of steam that comes out when you open the door.

Re: Dishwasher-which one do you have and
we have a kenmore... i can tell you that we searched high and low for our dishwasher... the deciding point for us was the rack layout inside... some of the ones we were looking at had little nubs instead of the full racks so nothing would be held up... we were actually purchasing all new appliences and since we were going stainless everything ended up kenmore based exclusively on the dishwasher since every company has a different stainless...
the inside tub is also stainless steel and after 3 years it is still going strong
