where to donate clothes?

Since DH and I are moving soon we'll be sorting through our closet tomorrow and getting rid of clothes we haven't worn in the last two years..........

For those who donate old clothing, where do you take it?

Oh and by the way, this is MAJOR for me... I am so bad at parting with my old stuff!! Chat Icon

Re: where to donate clothes?

There is usually a drop off at our church. I think it goes to St. Vincent's DePaul.

Re: where to donate clothes?

We call Big Brother's Big Sisters...they will pick up at your house. They also take other things, such as furniture, glassware etc.

I wouldn't drop your clothes in one of the bins...they sit forever and by the time the church/charity gets the stuff I'm sure it's no good anymore.

I donate to the Vietnam Veterans- like BB/BS, they come to my house and that's a big plus for me. They also accept books, household stuff, toys, anything really. You can do everything online, which is also convenient.

I don't use the bins anymore either- the ones near me are always so full and people dump trash there so it makes me wonder if the stuff even gets to where it's supposed to go.

Schedule a pickup

Re: where to donate clothes?

There are so many places where you can easily set up a pick up online, which I love bc I can be lazy about making phone calls. Ovarian Cancer Research is comng to my house tomorrow for a pick up, I hope their truck is empty when they come bc I went through all my kids' clothes this weekend. We also use Lupus foundation - they take lots of stuff besides clothes. I also donate to the thrift shop in the church basement of my son's preschool.

Re: where to donate clothes?

We donate to three charities for clothing and household items we don't need.

1. Vietnam Vets
2. Ovarian Cancer Society
3. Lupus Foundation

You call them, they pick up. You just have to bag the items together.

we also give to big brothers big sisters...i also feel funny about dropping clothes in a bin. if you call big brothers once for a donation, i believe they send you a mailing every so often to let you know when they'll be in your neighborhood...they tell you if you have anything for them to leave it in a bag outside your home in a bag marked w a "b" and they'll drive by your house and check for anything. so even in between their visits, you can collect clothes and know that they'll be around again soon. it's convenient and you know it's getting picked up right away.
