Spinoff to starter home
Did you buy a starter home first, or go straight to a forever home?

Re: Spinoff to starter home
I consider our house a start home, but it would be possible to live here forever if need be. We have 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, studio apartment with full bath, finished basement, decent sized yard, etc. It is definitely do-able if we had to stay here for any reason... all of our needs for us and our soon to be 3 children would be met. But in our forever home we want 1 acre, 5 bedrooms, 2+ baths, bigger great room, maybe cul-de-sac, etc. These are just wants and not needs.

Re: Spinoff to starter home
We bought a forever home (but is anything forever?). We knew we needed at least 4 bedrooms and lots of space and we loved everything about the house.

Same here. The house is actually quite big, but we may look for a new-build in a few years.

Re: Spinoff to starter home
For us, ours is a starter but the previous owners lived here all their lives. The parents bought it brand new in 1939, raised their kids in it, then the son bought it and raised his family in it also.
I love our house, 3 br, 1.5 bath, full basement with bath, dining room, lvg room, sunroom, attached garage, attic, etc. but I want a bigger house one day, 4-5 bedrooms. If it were never to happen, I'm sure we could stay here though.
Honestly though, I think we got lucky with our house. We saw many other houses which would really have qualified as starter homes. Ours had everything I was looking for, down to the hardwood floors and brick fireplace.

Re: Spinoff to starter home
This is our forever home. I grew up in my parents' "starter house" and heard my mom complain about their lack of space forever. Granted, they had 3 bedrooms and 1.5 baths, and so do we, but we have the potential to expand. DH and I hate change, and the idea of packing up and leaving here is so unattractive to us.

Re: Spinoff to starter home
It could be our forever home, but it won't be.
I want a much bigger kitchen. I do not want to live across from the Southern State Parkway for the rest of my life.
It does have four bedrooms and a full basement, so we can live here nicely, but I NEED a bigger kitchen.

In my mind there is never a forever home. I grew up moving around the country so picking up and finding a new house wouldnt phase me in the least

Re: Spinoff to starter home
We are in ouu starter home and currently in the market for a new home. I don't know if our next one will be our forever home either, but we need to find something with more space and our finances will only take us so far right now. Maybe one day we can have our dream house

Re: Spinoff to starter home
We are in our starter home. I did not want to get a house that we would be stuck in just because it was "big enough." My parent's said that the house they purchased was their starter home, and thought they would move after 5 years, well 30 years later they are in the same house. It is a nice house, in a great location and a good school district. It even has 5 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathroom, but I grew up listening to my mom complain about it. What ever house you get I would always make sure that it is in a good school district.
I know we will need to move in the next few years and I am ok with that.

Re: Spinoff to starter home
Starter home - very good SD and location, but small. Has 3 bedrooms, but everything is tiny. We could expand, but might move in a few years depending on the market and how many children we have.

Re: Spinoff to starter home
Forever. We were in our 30's and had 2 kids when we bought this house.. we didn't have time or inclination to play around! We bought the house we figured we would be happy in forever after.
That's not to say our house is big.. it is small. But we don't require a lot. There's only 4 of us.
