To Paint or Not to Paint--- any thoughts?

Ok,...so if we do move on we will need to make the choice to paint our cabinets or leave them. I don't know if I am in love with the grain on the cabinets. Is there anyway I can make them more updated with paint? But if paint--what color? The floor is white and so are the appliances. I want to get new counter tops and of course clean up the mess of that back splash with tiles... but do I paint the cabinets...white? leave them? thoughts??

what about changing the hardware first and see how you like that. I kinda like the wood...but it's hard to tell from the pics. I think with new countertops and backsplash, the cabinets would look fine.

I agree, I'd change the hardware first and change the backsplash and counter tops for a more updated look.

While painting always comes out well on HGTV, I'm not sure how I'd pull it off but the cabinets are actually pretty nice. And if you still don't like the wood, you can still paint and use hte new hardware.

Yes, I agree change the hardware first.

Also, I cannot remember who it was but someone on here shared a pic of their brick backsplash that they painted white and it looks almost like subway tile! Would you be open to just painting your current backsplash? I wish I could remember who it was who posted the pic so you could see what I mean...

Someone on this board (sorry i forgot who Chat Icon ) painted their faux brick paneling white. it fooled many of us to think it was subway tile! i think that'd change the look immediately!

I agree with the other ladies. Paint the backsplash white first and if you are going to change the counter top, you will feel like you have a whole new kitchen. GL!

I had the same bricks in my kitchen YUCK..I painted them white Much better! Its a pain in the a$$ but totally worth it if you can't do a full remodel for a while. You will probably like the cabinets much better after you paint the backsplash and change out the countertops!

Hey that's my kitchen...I'm honored you like itChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Our brick is actually fake brick paneling that I painted. Well worth the time it took. It changed the whole look.

I think once you paint the brick get a new countertop and change the hardware you're going to love the changes.

Don't forget to post before and after pictures!

I agree--paint the back splash & change the hardware. Also, trying cleaning the cabinets ( I am assuign you just moved in, not that you are dirty)--old cabinets may be greasy & that will affect the color.

I was going to post the same thing!!

paint those bricks white FIRST and see how you like the cabinets. I would also get updated handles, and if you still don't like them, I would paint them white. then you can sand them around the edges to reveal a little of the wood kinda like this:

I don't think I would have thought about painting fake brick, but I'm sure you are glad you did. I would have thought of just taking it done, but this way you used what you had and made the best of it. Really brighten up your kitchen. The first time I saw your pic I thought it was white subway tiles. Nice!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Wow! You guys rock! I am in love wit the the wood and painted brick! The only thing is the painted brick is only on that side of the kitchen.... the other side has MIRROR!!! Yes...a mirror back splash. Maybe I can find some of that fake brick somewhere else in the house and paint it white and hang it there for now!

THANK YOU ALL!!!!
