Those with thermal drapes

We have them in DS room and were thinking of getting them for our room since we have the most drafty windows ever, and its freezing. However, in DS room, bc they are so thick with the thermal lining, when you push them open on the curtain rod, they dont really "fold" up and crease nicely and are kind of a mess and stick out.

What are you doing about this?

Re: Those with thermal drapes

I have two different kinds. I have ones that I bought from JCPenny that were lined already and those I don't have any probably with. The set I have a problem with are the ones that I added the thermal lining, so it's completely separate from the curtains. those I have to play around with if I close the curtains and reopen them. I was thinking about ironing them with pleats I guess. Not sure if that would work or not. Mine are on curtain rings, not on the rod itself. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Chat Icon

That is weird that you are having a problem with the JCP ones. I don't have a problem with those. Maybe have them dry cleaned. Maybe afterwards they will hang better. I don't know what else to say. Weird. Chat Icon

Re: Those with thermal drapes

when i first get curtains i always tumble them with a wet dish towel to release the wrinkles and soften them and then hang immediately.....maybe try that if the curtains can go in dryer

Re: Those with thermal drapes

I have the Linden Street ones too, but the lining is more like a double layer of cottonish fabric up thicker.

what a great idea. i do that with my sheers "tumble dry", but I never thought about putting a wet towel in with it. I have to try that next time and see if they come out better. Great idea.Chat Icon

The lining on ours is REALLY thick, I can even think of anything to liken it too, its like a mattress pad (you know the ones for kids who wet the bed) but like 5 times more padded.

Chat Icon now that is really bulky. Maybe you can iron on the inside pleat only. Meaning don't iron the front part, just iron the pleat that would be closet to the window. Does that make sense? Then when you close it the curtain should hang better. Hope that helps.

Re: Those with thermal drapes

I don't have an answer for any of you ladies. I solved the problem by taking them off and replacing them with non-thermo. I just couldn't work with them they were too stiff.
