Wow, I don't plan on buying most of that stuff! Just taking stuff that I have from home and then buying whatever we need.

For the bras, I actually heard the opposite - that binding your boobs or having a too-tight bra will actually make it more difficult for your milk to come in. So if you plan on trying to BF, I would not get tight sports bras. Maybe a BTDT mom can weigh in with more info.

I agree about the bra. If you are BF'ing then you don't want tight. If you plan on FF from day 1, then a tight bra will help keep engorgement under control.

Also - I would not use any scented body products/perfume the first few days, especially if you are BF'ing.

You've inspired me to do my hospital bag tomorrow! I'm due April 1 and DH has to work all day anyway so some shopping will make me feel productive.

Re: went shopping for hospital bag!

I don't think you'll use the razors, the shaving gel or the body spray. At least...I probably wouldn't. The shower sucks in the hospital and I wasn't leaning on anything trying to shave a leg, especially when I was bleeding and had a huge gash from my c-section.

But hey...that's me.Chat Icon

I was thinking the same exact thing when I read she bought razors, but I also had a c-section.

Body Spray was my life saver because with DC #1, my roomate STUNK and my body spray saved the dayChat Icon . DC #2..I was smart and got a private room.

Re: went shopping for hospital bag!

I think its better to have than to have not...so it doesnt hurt especially since they are travel size Chat Icon
I would consider a light weight robe, many ppl say towels which I plan on discarding and not bringing home, so if you wanna by some cheap ones you wont mind throwing out thats fine. Also consider pillowcases or even pillows, some hard candy to suck on if your mouth gets dry, comb/brush, and if you are BF some nursing bras...
Congrats on your progress so far Chat Icon

Don't worry about razors or body wash, especially anything with a smell like perfume. The baby can't be around that. Bring your own pillow. Also if you have a BOPPY pillow for the baby, make sure to have that. Towels to use, even a small hand towel for your face instead of the hospital ones. Definitely sanitary pads, the hospital ones suck. Bring the overnight long ones with wings, you will feel much better in that with your own underwear.

Slippers- you want something easy when you take a walk down to the nursery or just to move around.

Hard Candy- for labor (not red)
****if you are BF, you need LANOLIN cream.*** Big mistake I made not having it and OMG it hurt!

Re: went shopping for hospital bag!

Mich-Don't forget your camera, camera charger, cell phone charger, and if you are insane like me-your laptop and power supply (I have WiFi in the hospital).

I am bringing a shower cap because I don't like washing my hair too much-I might bring my flat iron because it is fast and easy and will make me feel human

I heard bring your own pillow and the boppy. Are you BFing?

Okay, so you don't need the Boppy then, unless you are having a C and you think it will make it easier to hold DS.

You might want your hair dryer-I know I am particular about my hair dryer!

I wouldn't bring the body spray because he might react to it. I am bringing lotion that is very lightly scented for that reason.

If I can think of anything else that I am getting, I will let you know.

Re: went shopping for hospital bag!

FYI...my doctor told me not to put on baby powder near my chest/neck for the first month. Something in the powder that babies should not be inhaling??. Just passing it on.

Re: went shopping for hospital bag!

From my experience-

I wore the same pj pants and t-shirt for the 2 days I was at the hospital. I changed my undies and pads. BRING OVERNIGHT PADS WITH WINGS!! The hospital ones suck and I wanted to kiss my roomie when she handed me a few of hers. I was way too sore to do any clothes changing and barely got out of bed. (I had a vaginal delivery). I barely wore a bra.

Forget about the body wash and razors. The hospital gives you mini soaps to use. I took about a 3 minute shower and ended up having to rush out to puke. I pretty much stayed dirty until I got home. You will not be shaving anythingChat Icon

They have hand sanitizers in the room so you won't need that, either.

I would say to definitely keep the deodorant, toothbush and toothpaste, face wash and lotion, q-tips (because I have to clean my ears twice a day, lol), hair ties, brush and lip balm.

I would also bink just one pair of flip flops and bring a pair of slippers.

I also didn't bring the boppy (but I didn't BF) and the hopital supplied me with enough pillows so I didn't need my own.

Also- don't forget phone/camera chargers!

Re: went shopping for hospital bag!

If you're nursing, your best bet is a couple of nursing tanks.

I had the ones from Target and they are super comfy and easy to use.
