Closet doors
In our MB we have plain non raised white closet doors. We have two sets of them. I do not mind them but I was wondering if there was any way to DIY cheaply to jazz them up. My room is blue, my carpet is sea green, our furniture is white. (pics in album). I was trying to find some ideas online but came up short. Any ideas? Or links?

Re: Closet doors
maybe you could hang a mirror on the door, or put decal's on them to dress them up. you know the one's people put on there walls and it looks like murals. just a thought.

Re: Closet doors
you can buy thin molding (strips) and do squares or just one square to give it interest.

We have one door in our house like this. All of the doors in the house are 6 panel doors. When we bought the house, I never noticed that the really small closet in the hallway wasn't the same as the others. I guess it's too small for panel doors. The previous owner DIYed the boxes like on a 6 panel door, but it was only three. So one smaller on top and bottom and one longer one in the middle. I didn't notice for months that is was different from the rest. Yes it's raised molding on the door, but it looks really nice. So you can just buy trim moldling and put it on the door.

Re: Closet doors
these are the doors you are talking about? Buy the way, I love your room. I don't think you can put molding on those doors. I think they are too close together and wouldn't fit anymore. But you could just buy new sliding doors to replace these. Or maybe put a mirror with molding on the outer one and that would dress them up.

Re: Closet doors
I was just about to suggest wallpaper, but not the entire door. You could cut the wallpaper into panels, to give the illusion of panes, finish the edges with a permanent tape to 'frame' each pane.

Re: Closet doors
I know you were asking how to do something to the existing doors, but HD has doors esp for closets for about $19.00. DH bought tons for our basement we are redoing. they are the ones with the panels.

Re: Closet doors
I noticed that they are sliders? i think molding is out of the question b/c it will just scratch up the doors when you open and close them.

Re: Closet doors
thank you everyone for the responses. I was considering all of your thoughts too. I thought about the molding but then realized it was too close together. I thought of painting them a gray color to offset the rest of the room. I thought about doing the wallpaper both full door and making illusion of panels. I am just not sure what would look the best. Then this weekend I was thinking of a simple solution of handles. Like the ones in anthro. I would replace them but they are in good condition, I feel like it's a waste. What do you guys think would look best?
And PS JldDolphin thanks for liking our room. It's quite tranquil to go home to after a long day. And coming from you that's a great compliment cause your home is a beauty !

this is what Rachel is talking about. Link
Beth I think you might be able to do this if you just use a flat piece of molding. The molding is just flat wood really, maybe 2" wide. You could still cut the miter cuts and still make it look nice with pretty fabric or wallpaper in the middle. I hope that makes sense. It's flat, so it might work for your closets.

Re: Closet doors
maybe something like this. It's pretty flat and it's only .5 inches thick. So it's only 1/2" think. That might fit in between the sliding doors.

So awesome. Thanks for doing that... but I do wonder since one door is less visable then the other, what would it really look like??

Re: Closet doors
you are going to have to do it on each door so it looks like it's even. I would get some painters tape and play around with the sizes of the boxes you want. GL! I hope it comes out the way you want.
Otherwise another fun idea would be just to paint the whole door a darker or lighter color then the walls in the room. Oh I know, how about painting the doors a solid color, like I said, darker or lighter then your walls, then take the same molding that I posted and just trim the outer part of of the door. So basically you are making a picture frame out of your doors. I hope that makes sense. I'll try to do another pic later for you.
