Should I move to Lake Grove ??
My heart is in Kings Park where I grew up and my friends and family are I would love to buy a home here but not that much to choose from. I found a gorgeous home in Lake Grove for a great price. this house has everything we want and more. Is it worth it to move away from family and friends to have a great home ???
Has anyone done this moved somewhere they really didnt want to. Any info about Lake grove would be appreciated TIA

Lake grove isn't that far from kings park but I don't think you should buy a house that you don't really want

Re: Should I move to Lake Grove ??
My DH and I grew up in KP too and miss it EVERY day and we are only in Smithtown. There just wasnt what we wanted or needed there either and I miss the town terribly. It used to actually make me sad to drive through it bc my ILs and my parents are still there.
We are in Smithtown, really close to Lake Grove and we have lived to tell about it, LOL.
So I totally get how hard it is to leave KP behind, but you can totally be happy in Lake Grove.

Re: Should I move to Lake Grove ??
I think i might know who you are but I would say it depends on where you live now. If you don't live very far from lake grove now then I wouldn't move there. its not that much closer to KP.
If you live far from lake grove and your not who I am thinking of, and that brings you closer to KP by alot, then I would do it.
All I know is everyone says you should stay in a house for 5 years before you sell. So if you think your heart is that much in KP maybe you should keep looking and hope to find something in KP
We looked in KP for awhile and didn't find what we were looking for. DH has plans for us to move back in a few years.

Re: Should I move to Lake Grove ??
I know how you feel. Not about KP but about moving to a place your not sure of. In my opinion if you found a great home that has everything you are looking for then you should go for it especially if you cant find or there isnt anything in KP. I moved to East Northport and its totally out of my comfort zone. I grew up on the south shore out East more and I do miss it Im not gonna lie BUT I have a great home in a great town that I could not have found some were else and I am very happy and Lake Grove is a lot closer to your family then mine is to me. Good luck with your decision!!

I actually still live in Kings park but do not own yet. It is such a hard decision and totally sucks. KP is great but Lake grove is very nice also. I just cant decide if i wanna give up on KP but if i wait this house might be gone. I hate being an adult sometimes

Lake Grove is a great area - but I can understand why you wouldn't want to leave "home". My husband and I toy with this every day....whether or not we should move closer to family and friends on the island.
Best of luck to you!

Re: Should I move to Lake Grove ??
I think Lake Grove is a nightmare to get to. The streets are poorly planned and if you have to take 347, 454 you are screwed. You are also far from the highways. My friend lives in a newer custom built home and may be looking to sell-not sure what price range you are looking in? FM if you are interested

well you have to ask yourself, are you willing to scarfice exactly what you want in a home for location? (the lake grove house)
or are you willing to scarfice the house size but still be where you love?
we chose to buy the house that we wanted and scarfice location. but it wasn't that hard of a decision becuase we have family and friends already in the new location. our drives to work will be a bit longer, but we were willing to scarfice that for a bigger house.
good luck! its a hard decision, we went back and forth for awhile, until we found the house we are buying, not in KP.

very valid points, and I think the closest access to the LIE is probably Nicolls, right?

Re: Should I move to Lake Grove ??
I live in Lake Grove currently. While I don't love the location of my house (just south of 347) I do really like the town. I especially like that it is an incorporated village. There are little perks- such as better plowing than other areas of brookhaven, the village supplies leaf bags in the fall and spring, they are also being stricter with building codes and forcing new businesses to build more visually appealing buildings. There are also lots of parks/playgrounds around the neighborhoods, which is nice if you have kids. And taxes tend to be pretty low. Mine are less than $5000.
Traffic can be a pain on 347, especially around xmas, but you can get to the LIE using Nicolls, Stony Brook Rd/Hawkins Ave, or 347 to rt 111. Depends on where in Lake Grove you are coming from.

Re: Should I move to Lake Grove ??
The only way to LIE is via Old Nichols Rd-ex.58 or like MrsFlatbread said. Also I just wanted to clarify my friends' house is in Kings Park-the tree section

I think i might know who you are
Me too....
On another note, if location is such an important thing to you, then you're probably better off waiting to find the home of your dreams in the location you want. It might take a little longer than expected but it'd be what you really love. I don't think Lake Grove is that far from Kings Park but I personally don't find anything far. I used to commute to the city for a long time so from Lake Grove to Kings Parks is like a breeze in comparison. Do a pros and cons list and see if you are able to compromise if you love this new home. Best of luck with your decision !!

Re: Should I move to Lake Grove ??
I don't really see moving to Lake Grove from Kinds Park "moving away" from family and friends. I grew up in Commack and my parents are still there. We moved to Centereach a few years ago, and still see my parents every week. Every once in awhile I need my mom to come babysit in a pinch and she can make the drive from Commack with no problem. I make the drive from Centereach to Commack fairly often. Its really not a big deal at all. Lake Grove to Kings Park is a 20-30 minute drive.

You can always change your house but you can't change your location.
Location, location, location.

It's not far at all. I work in Kings Park & drive from Patchogue. It takes me 30-40 mins.
