K tomorrow we start the refinishing process. The floor guy said its not a big deal to stay in the house as long as we wait to walk on the floors lightly.
Our plan is stay in another part of the house (the garage that is finished) just walk outside and enter into our kitchen periodically. We have outside entrance directly into the kitchen.
I know it smells and we have a cat and i just hope its not horrible in the garage being said how long did you wait to walk on the floors? He said we can do it once we come home from work just very lightly and that we can put down Kraft paper on Sunday so Monday we can resume work in the house. I plan to keep the heat on just crack the windows.
What was everyone experiences?

Our floor guy told us to stay out of the house completley while the floors were being finished. We had them done right before we moved in. If you can, I would stay out of the house because the smell will be awful! Also, I am sure you wont want to be opening your windows in this weather to vent the house!
ETA we were told not to walk on them for like 2 days, and on the 3rd day we could walk with socks on the floor.

We were told not to walk on our floors for 3 days afterwards as well. And it smelled terrible in there for about 5 days.
If you don't have to stay there, I would give it a few days.

i don't recall what they told us but we didn't go in the house for at least 48 hrs, and then we moved in. we had brown craft paper down on the major walkways, and didn't put rugs down for at least 2 weeks per the recommendation of our floor guys. the floors need time to cure, and rugs will hamper that process.

We were told not to walk on the floors at all. We also had them done before we moved in. We will have an issue when we finish the floors downstairs because we can't get to the kitchen without walking through the dining room. Let me know how it works out for you!

Re: for those who had their floors refinished please come in
thank you all! the guy said we can walk lightly because we will stay off the main floors and just use the hallway to get into our bedroom and bathroom which would be a total of 5 steps and since he is doing it early by the time we would be home it would be safe for light walking (no shoes). I think to be safe we will just walk around very sparingly - basically go to bathroom if need be and just stay in the bedroom.
As far as smell i am sealing off the finished garage area so if its so bad we will stay in there. Our bedroom/bathroom doors will be shut and windows cracked open in all the rooms.
He did say we can resume work/kraft paper on monday but i think we will hold out on major work until the end of the week if not the following week. I will just place the paper down starting tuesday where i am painting and not tape it down until a few more days.
I def. will wait on rugs and furniture until the 7 days are over!
