What do I need to do?
We're getting really close to our closing date (should be the end of next week if all goes smoothly). Finally! I'm so excited, but really scared at the same time. I've never lived in a house before; only apartments. I feel like there must be so much stuff I need to take care of before I move in. But what?
We already paid for our homeowners insurance.
I'll call oil companies this week.
I'll call home security companies right after we move in.
What else??? I feel so lost!

make sure sellers cancel their oil deliveries 
lipa
change your addy with all your current bills,
take your deed right over to mineola after the closing and get you STAR paperwork submitted

Rachel - who is our water company? I don't even know.
I don't think I can do the utilities until I know what day to start service, right? But keep the suggestions coming - I will bookmark this thread and come back to it in a few days when I'll know the closing date (fingers crossed!!!)

Once you know the closing date have your attorney ask their attorney what day they are going to vacate. They have to call the utility companies and tell them they want to cancel service for a specific date and then once they do that you call and set up service for the same date this way there is no lapse in service.
