Just ordered one from there. Overstock.com has a great selection too. Home Goods has great quality and $$ but, selection is limited.

Overstock.com. We bought all but one of our rugs from them (got 4 rugs and a runner, plus pads for all including our other rug for just $1000). Just pay attention to what the reviews say about colors. Some of the photos can be a little off.

Re: Area Rugs that are not $$$$
are you looking for more modern styles or traditional? is the macy's clearance/furniture store still open in Carle Place? if so, bet they'd have some.

We have always done really well at Lowes - good selection and good prices. They have all held up well. Good luck!

Re: Area Rugs that are not $$$$
modern and plain. I miss national wholesale liquidators
I need a large probably 8 x 10 or larger plain light brown to medium brown rug. One light with a floral theme (modern floral) around 8 x 10 something light blue/silvery accents in it.

Re: Area Rugs that are not $$$$
I shopped around a lot for area rugs. I looked in JC Penny, Kohls, HD, Home Goods, online, etc. I never found anything I loved and the prices were unbelievable because we needed a larger size. I was avoiding a carpet store because I know those stores can be really expensive!
In the end though, I got a huge area rug from a carpet store on Jericho that I happened to be driving by one day. It is a solid color, textured remnant 10X12 that was already edged. It is of great quality and was only $270, less than 1/3 of the price they usually charge per square foot for that particular carpet. I love it and am so happy that I went in to take a look.

We've gotten rugs from Home Goods and Macy's
i've seen lots like you described in Home Decorators Collection catalogs though.. i know what you mean about needing to see it in person, that was always my issue with rugs and most furniture.

Re: Area Rugs that are not $$$$
I just bought one yesterday at Home Goods for $169. It is 100% wool and so thick, I have been looking for a while, so if you have patience wait cause it will pay off. We were looking at some that were over $800, we didn't know they were so expensive...
